2010 has been a busy year so far, and we thank our clients and trial users for your continued support over the years.
March involved a lot of travelling, and David Farmer, ASLA, was proud to be given the opportunity to be a speaker at the Pennsylvania/Delaware State ASLA Annual Conference in Pittsburgh, and to the Texas ASLA Annual Conference in San Antonio. The presentations focused on using CAD technology to work smarter with fewer people. The talk included a history of document preparation and a presentation of the recent explosion of technological advancements that have been made for the Landscape Architectural profession. Direct examples were made on specific technological advancements and how various firms have used these advancements to save time, be more efficient, and operate with fewer people.
Dave also gave a presentation at LABASH 2010 in Las Vegas, and it was a pleasure to meet the up and coming faces of landscape architecture. The Land F/X booth was well attended, and students were excited to learn they could get the full version of Land F/X for free! Students have the chance to win an iPAD by submitting a design using Land F/X. Contest rules can be found here: http://www.landfx.com/studentcontest.php.
While Dave was doing a lot of presenting and travelling, Jeremiah was at the Gulf Landscaping Show in Abu Dhabi to present as well. The show was a tremendous success. We had a chance to touch bases with many of our existing clients, as well as meet many new interested companies. Below is a photo of the booth:
Jer was able to attend the presentation on Masdar City, the 50,000 community that Abu Dhabi is currently building, scheduled for a 2012 opening. Its goal is to be 100% sustainable, with 0 carbon footprint. Cars will be banned from the city, with the city comprised of narrow streets for pedestrian traffic. The city itself is canted 45 degrees, so that its North/South alignment will maximize shade, and the road layouts are also designed to funnel prevailing wind. A rendering of the city can be seen below:
In April, we will be hitting the road again to attend the ASIC (American Society of Irrigation Consultants) Conference in Monterey, CA. Come on by and say hello to Jeremiah and Jolene! It is always a pleasure to meet our clients as well as new users who may want to learn more.

Success Story
Every month, Land F/X highlights a success story from one of our valued clients. The O'Doherty group is featured in the month of April. Many thanks to Sara Thiel for submitting this.
"Our office, O'Doherty Group Landscape Architecture, has many success stories using the Land F/X software for many of our projects. We have predominantly been using the software for generating planting plans and schedules, however we recently completed an irrigation plan for a large urban park in Germantown, Maryland. We are also finally starting to use the detail portion of the software for project specific details.
Our biggest success story has been a large 270 acre development in Clarksburg, Maryland. We were required to show planting schedules for each 30 scale sheet, for each 10 scale enlargement sheet, and two overall planting schedules for the eastern portion of the site and the western portion of the site. Overall the project contained approximately 53 plant schedules! I can't tell you how much time and money was saved on this project, just by using the planting aspect of Land F/X. Thank you Land F/X!"
New Features
Land F/X is beginning to roll out our new Design F/X system.
