Land F/X Line Weight Conventions

Line Weight Layer Naming Conventions

Metric units are used for line weight designation, for logical long term usability. The foundation for traditional line widths came from technical drawing pens, commonly with sizes 4X0 (0.18mm, 0.007in) through 4 (1.20mm, 0.047in) in ten steps. Land F/X line widths vary from very fine, 0.13mm (0.005in), to very wide, 1.00mm (0.040in), with six steps in widths.

Land F/X names line weight widths by a four character name signifying its width with a metric designation. This naming allows for easy reference to a line width, and is also used with the Land F/X drawing layer name system to signify a line width. For example, 025M describes a layer with a line width of 0.25mm (0.010in). A layer to signify text written with a 0.25mm line width color might be named L-TEXT-025M.

The Land F/X Weight Widths are as follows:

Solid Line Colors

The Land F/X Pen Color and Weight Standards are represented in the AutoCAD drawing “LFX Pens.dwg” located in the LandFX/Administration folder. The Land F/X approach to line colors include:

This system results in 23 different line colors for solid lines, and 3 non-plot line colors.

Screened Line Colors

The Land F/X approach to screened lines is to achieve maximum flexibility by having a variety of screened line weight and percentages of screening.

There are four basic line weights for screened lines:

The percentage of screening options for each line weight are 20% to 60% (to 80% at the Medium line). This allows maximum flexibility in artistically creating shaded drawings or blocks, and allows adaptable options in creating a screened base drawing. Notice from the “LFX Pens.dwg” drawing that each line weight has a similar color of lines associated with that line weight, and that the colors get darker as the percent of screening increases.

Land F/X names screened lines with a four character name signifying its width and percentage of screening. This naming allows for easy reference to the type of screened line, and is also used with the Land F/X drawing layer names to signify a specific line characteristic. The four character name is broken down as follows:

§
The first character is S to signify a Screened line.
§
The second character is the width of the line, either F M B or W for Fine, Medium, Broad, or Wide.

For example, SM30 describes a screened line with a medium width, 0.35mm (0.010in), and a 30% screening. A symbol block with a SM30 screened line would be named

X-SYMB-SM30.
