Insert Work Area Border (Optional)

 

This is an optional process that is helpful on certain projects. Inserting a Work Area will indicate a border around an area you define, and allow you to perform functions or allow drawing settings to occur uniquely just within that Work Area. Work Areas are drawn with a non-plot line, and the line color from one to another will vary slightly to distinguish them from one another.

 

This types of functions you can control in different Work Areas include:

§	Scale. You can set different scales to different Work Areas, and any Land F/X functions will automatically be correctly scaled for any work done in those areas.

§	Error checking. If you have a very large project, and what to do error checking (such as checking the plant labels or irrigation piping) in just one area at a time.

§	UCS control. You can set up a viewing of the site with UCS (User Coordinate System), and allow automatic control of the UCS while doing Land F/X work in any Work Area.

An example of this would be you have a large apartment project covering a city block. You will be viewing this project from each of the four streets that surround it, thus viewing the site differently for each work area. Use Land F/X to set the UCS (following topic) and if Work Areas are defined, you will use a pickbox to determine which Work Area is applicable to which UCS. Now when any work is done in a particular Work Area, that UCS will be the governing orientation.

§	Schedule control. Similar to sheet definition, you may want to do an entire plan and run a Plant Schedule for the landscaping in just a certain area, such as:

ú	Phases of the project

ú	Off site and on site improvements.

ú	Scope of work requirements, such as certain areas will be tenant improvements, other areas under a general contract, etc.

Select Define Work Area and the system will prompt you to create a Work Area, or select one that has already been created.

 

Select Define Work Area and enter the Abbreviation and Description of the Work Area. When you select OK the command line will prompt “Upper left corner of the Work Area or <P>olygon:”. Either hit Enter to define a “window” of a Work Area, or type “P” for polygon (then Enter), and draw a polyline area. The polygon definition is the most common and flexible method.
