Labeling Plants Label buttons on the Project Plants floating toolbar. The four icons for labeling plants are: Label by Group: the plants labeled do not have connecting lines between plants. This is the quickest and easiest method. Connecting Line: select each plant and a line connects them as you label. You can also put in a connecting arc between plants when you type “A”, and then default back to connecting line. Connecting Arc: select each plant and an arc connects them as you label. Single Plant: used to label just one plant, Shrub Areas, or Ground Covers. Label by Group § Select the Label by Group icon on the Plant Labels floating toolbar. § The crosshair will become a pickbox, select any plant in the group you wish to label. § The command line asks “First window point, <P>olygon:”. The selection method defaults to a window selection, or type P for to define by a irregular polygon (or fence). § Window is the most common method of selection, thus it is the default. Place a Window selection around an area that includes the plants you want to label. Remember, the Window will only select the plant type you indicated, so you can select as large a window area as you wish, it will ignore all plants other than the one you selected. § After placing a selection Window, a rubber band leader will appear from the plant that you originally selected. Click on where you want the label to appear (point 1), then click on which direction you want the label to be placed (point 2). § The label appears with the Plant Code, Quantity, and Container Size. § A rubber band leader continues from point 1 to allow you to further define the group you selected, or you can right click to exit with one leader line. Clicking on any point of the plant symbol will select it. § A connecting line is automatically drawn to the center of each plant as you select them. It will only let you select the type of plant you first picked. § The system allows you to intersperse arcs within connecting lines, prompting for "Next plant, or <A>rc:" By pressing the "A" key, you can then select the next plant, and click on the midpoint of the arc; it will then default back to a connecting line. After placing a connecting arc, the function will automatically default back to label by line. § When you have selected all of the plants you wish to label, right click to end the selection process. The pickbox becomes a rubber band leader to place the label. § The command label asks, “Select label location”. Pick the point you want the label located (point 1), then select the direction of the label (point 2). § The label is placed with the Plant Code, Quantity, and Container Size. Pick the point you want the label located (point 1), then select the direction of the label (point 2). § The label is placed with the Plant Code, Quantity, and Container Size.
