The MSC Premera courtyard plaza serves as a vital link between the campus buildings and has resulted in the creation of a new corporate campus for executives, employees and visitors. The heart of the central courtyard is defined by a sandblasted low wall that contains tables and chairs in multiple configurations with ADA accessible seating that encourages employee choice. The perimeter of the hardscape is punctuated by a dry creek bed which invokes the regional character of the Spokane River, and functions to channel stormwater for appropriate treatment. In the absence of ample green space the courtyard serves as a tangible connection between the neighborhood community and MSC Premera. The plant material chosen provides year-round visual interest, comfort and sensory engagement. Large deciduous trees provide shade in the hottest areas of the courtyard, while flowering cherries, magnolias and rhododendrons add a splash of color each spring and fall.
