If you Right Click to specify the sleeve end point, it will place with the default width.

Bringing back a dead post in case anybody else searches this like i did...

Best way to deal with this that i found is to temporarily change the plot scale (don't resize existing objects). By lowering the scale, you can decrease the width while you draw sleeves and then once you finish, set it back to the global scale you were using prior.
