I guess that some government agencies are requiring sch 80 for mains and lateral lines. Probably someone that never used pipe cutters on schedule 80 pipe proposed this. Others said "Sure. Why not?" I should invest in the company that sells those cutter blades. Right?

I haven't come across this yet but they must have had a really good, well thought out, and heavily researched reason for this requirement. There is no way that anybody in government would create a rule/ordinance/requirement about something that they have absolutely no experience with. [HEAVY SARCASM]

Not that I've seen.  And Sch 80 stuff is pretty expensive.  There's been a move around here (PNW) towards HDPE mains and laterals.
