Working in a new file, I placed a bunch of our standard details. When I click "edit" on the detail manager, sometimes they will open, but usually I get the error, "Error opening file: Automation error, invalid execution content." Sometimes if I close the error message and click the edit button again, it will work; other times, I just keep getting the error.
Any idea what might cause that?

Typically if you try to manually open the detail, you will get a more descriptive error indicating the issue.
We have some other things to try here:

Interesting- when I open the details manually, I have not encountered any errors.

Are these details on a network drive?
If you Audit the detail are there any errors?
If you are consistently unable to edit a certain detail, you could send it in to see if we can replicate the issue.

Yes, the details are on a network drive.
I have audited a few sample details and found no errors.
This issue is happening inconsistently with all of our details. I haven't been able to find any that consistently work, nor have I found any that consistently don't work.

There are number of reports of this issue with AutoCAD 2016, I was thinking it could be that.
Otherwise it is something to do with the network, or the file itself.
One thought is that we could change that dialog there, to say something like "Try again?" with Yes/No buttons.
Since it is not consistent, it is probably a networking issue, and the Yes/No buttons would undoubtedly address it.
I'll see how quickly we can get this on the calendar.

I was able to get this into the update that just posted.
Please let me know if it helps in opening a detail.

Thank you, Jeremiah. When I use the "Try again?/yes" button, it hasn't successfully opened a detail for editing. Whatever the error is keeps blocking it from opening. However, I found if I use the other "Edit" button- on the toolbar instead of in the detail manager- that works consistently.

I have tested this extensively, and cannot replicate the issue. Both buttons fire the exact same code, making it more of a puzzler.
You of course have the solid workaround for now. Perhaps if others have similar symptoms, we might get some more clues.
