Hello!

When trying to place a rotor on a background image it causes a half black square to follow my cursor. When I move my cursor back over the lines they disappear. When I take the cursor off the background image the lines are no longer created outside of the image, but are still present on the image. Not sure if there is some setting I need to turn off. Thanks!

This happens to me, too.  I think it's an artifact of how AutoCad interacts with images, i.e. the processing of the image while you move the cursor and cad objects over it.  I've seen this with PDFs (attached, not imported) as well.

I always wonder if a bigger, better, faster computer would solve the problem.

Grant and Tom,

Yes, they are display artifacts based on how AutoCAD is interacting with your graphics card and its driver.

Here are some things to try out:

  1. Disable or enable Hardware Acceleration, choose the opposite setting from what you have. This changes how the program works with your graphics card. Turned on is the ideal setting, since you get a lot of benefits like no redraws when copying linework and being able to snap to the gap on a line using a dashed linetyle. However, we usually recommend disabling it if you're having display issues since it's usually the cause. Disable Hardware Acceleration

  2. Check your graphics card's installed driver version. If this is a recent issue, it could be that a new update caused a disconnect between your version of AutoCAD and your version for your graphics card driver. Try reverting to a previous driver version for now, or consider upgrading AutoCAD if you're not on the current version (note that we don't support AutoCAD 2021 as of right now, April 7, 2020.). It could also be the opposite, and you need to update the driver.

  3. Here's some information to compare your graphics card to the system requirements: The Hardware Acceleration is ON, but You May Experience Some Performance Issues as Your Graphic Card Does Not Meet the Recommended Criteria

Number 1 worked. I disabled Hardware Acceleration in AutoCad. Thank you for the help!
