I need to use three typs of laterals in irrigation plan to distinguish them..
for example, laterals for tree in color 240
laterals for the law in color 202
shrubs laterals in color 160

I could set them in the general preferences..

but when i need to draw a lateral it gives the default one and later i needed to copy to the layer and then change the name and color..
Is there any other way to use each layer easier?

thank you

Nibal,
You will only be able to toggle through the pipe classes you have actually set up in your pipe data. If you want more than the two options, you need to assign a class of pipe to options 3,4,5, etc.

Nibal,
It sounds like you are not activating the next lateral type before piping. While piping, you can press "C" or the number "1-9" to progress to the additional pipe classes. Each pipe class is given a unique layer and color, so if you abide by the rules above, things will land on the proper layer automatically. Please see the links below for more on piping with lateral pipe.

You can also use our Match Properties button to swap out classes of pipe for another class if they are already placed. Please see the link below for more on this.

Bob,
This has been a function for a few months now. Definitely a big change for pipe data! Glad you like it. Just remember too, you can set up your pipe data defaults in your Preference Set and it will retain your chosen pipe classes and descriptions for when you start your new projects.

Our pipe data defaults have been assigned within the preference set and also saved out as a template. When we start a new project in F/X CAD 2018 and select the template, the pipe data is retained and shown as it was defined within the irrigation preferences link to pipe data but the link to pipe data found in the irrigation manager does not show any of the defined lateral or main line types, instead it shows a single lateral, single main line, and single sleeve type. There are no additional pipes to toggle through when drawing laterals or main line.

What would be causing this? Also, does each lateral or mainline type have to be a different class pipe in order for this to work? We desire to have a similar setup to the original poster where 5 different laterals are defined by line type and color but are all PVC Schedule 40.
Joe,

A new project absolutely will copy over the Pipe Defaults from the Preferences. At least it should. Send in a backup of your Preferences and we'll take a look.
As for needing 5 different classes -- yes. To be linetype ByLayer and color ByLayer, you will need 5 different layers to pull that off. So we simply accomplish that by having them be different pipe classes.

Attached is the preference set in question.

Thank you!
Joe,

It's all working perfectly for me. You mentioned you are selecting a Template when creating a new project, is that the case? Try creating a project without a template.

Just checked and using only the preference set works for a new project setup. If a new template is then created from that newly created project using only the preference set, then all new projects based on that template work as well.

I don't know why the original template that was being selected for new projects would not accept/load the pipe defaults but I can certainly take the other components of the original template and add it to this newly created template that now has the pipe defaults and create a complete template.
Joe,

That behavior makes sense if you think about it. Whatever data is in a Template is copied as-is into a project based upon it. This way you could have, for instance, a Non-Potable template, with wildly different pipe data than your Defaults. Should you wish to have no pipe data at all in any or all of your templates, and have them always copy in the latest defaults, this could be accomplished by either creating the template without using any Piping tools, or manually editing the template data and removing the pipe data.
