I have a request from a client to show existing spray head symbols and pipe as grayscale. The drawing has both existing and proposed irrigation heads and pipe. I was able to do the pipe easily since it is on its own layer. The heads, even though they are different symbols, are on the same layer components as the proposed features. What would be the best way to get these existing heads to be grayscale? Set up a work area?

I would simply place a Solid hatch over the existing items, with its color set to 255,255,255, and transparency to about 40%.
