Hi,

Feature request:

It would be great to import spot elevations from a survey dwg.

If LandFX could grab all the numbers, say 1042.49, that are linked

to a + in a dwg file and then create LandFX spot elevations from this,

that would be valuable and helpful.

Having to recreate my own spot elevations by hand from some 100 or 1000 survey spot elevations

that I get with each new project, well, there has to be a better way.

thanks,

Philip

Philip,

If the survey numbers are already in a CSV file, you can place the spot elevations with our Import CSV tool.

If they are just entities in an xref, you can use the Grid Placement option.

You can also send in an example survey file, and we can see if there is way to more precisely what you are asking.

Hi,

I've never received a CSV file with my surveys.. maybe that is something I can request from them, but I don't know

if that's expected or possible.  I've attached survey I'm working with now (it's been nuked).  This is a typical survey

I get and my workflow doing an Irrigation plan is typically to hand type in some 20-50 spot elevations to make them

LandFX smart objects and check use spot elevations when sizing the Laterals and Mainlines.  When doing Hardscape

it would be nice if my LandFX project owned the spot elevations too, but often this is too much work to manually add

them and I just XREF in the ones from the survey as needed.

A lot of times, in home residence projects, the contour lines are miniscule, and the surveyor team puts them on

the layer MISC.  So I'm not sure if Grid Placement is useful here in this example.

It would be great if LandFX program could grab the + spots in the survey file and create LandFX spot elevations

form those numbers that are linked to the +

Any tips/ideas appreciated.

thanks,

Philip

Philip,

Unfortunately that survey is what we in the industry call a "hot mess".

The elevations are just Mtext entities, usually placed near a cross arrow, but also just placed on a contour line, and in some cases placed in groupings making it impossible to determine which cross relates to which elevation.  There are also notes regarding existing trees, yet with a comment like '14" tree', which would take special care to not see that as just a spot elevation of 14.0.

I can certainly see it being nice to somehow automatically pull these in to being Land F/X spot elevations!  But the primary hurdle is that the numbers are not in any way linked to the cross arrows.  It would just take far too much effort to sort it out.

About the best solution I can think of, would be if there was a way to click on one of the numbers, to have it read that in, and then click again to choose the arrow point.  We can note that for a desired future expansion of the Spot Elevation tool.
