We have been asked to do a number of stand alone Hydrozone exhibits to allow review agencies to see that we have designed with exposure and like plantings grouped in hydrozones, and the colorization tool has been great but there have been a couple of things that could have made this much easier that are either in the program and we just don't know about them. or maybe are in the pipeline for later updates but I wanted to discuss.

  1. Colorization Legend - we do the valve schedule and allow that to colorize the plans but there is on color in the legend, We have been doing the schedule as a table and then just hatching half of the valve number cell but this is not a dynamic hatch, if anything changes we have to manually update, and if you turn off the color it turns these hatches off and does not regenerate them the next time you colorize.
  2. The valve callout  does not receive any color it would be great if the frame, or number, or wipe out got the matching color.
  3. Area take-offs would be a great option, drip areas and drip line areas would be straight forward since they are area based, sprays and rotor types would be more difficult but maybe it could calculate the area of throw from those heads and make the area of throw receive color and maybe a dashed or finer line just so you can see the area impacted by that valve zone.
  4. Ability to change one valves color after all areas are colored. we had a bubbler area that was a similar color (lt green vs lt blue) and since the drip area completely surrounded the bubblers they got lost in the plan, luckily we needed to split two zones up and the renumbering and recoloring changed the color of the two zones, but it would be great to be able to edit the zone and pick a color much like when you are doing the color for a single zone, only after the fact.

other than these ideas/issues we love the colorization feature for irrigation, it has saved a ton of time and is very graphic and visual which makes it better for everyone.

Thanks for letting me rant!

Bob,

We hope to have very much all of that functionality.  In fact the reason for the colorize option in the valve schedule, was that we were assuming that color swatches would be added there.  We agree that the valve callout would look very snappy in color, it was just technical challenges that have prevented it.

As for area calculations, you are correct that rotors and sprays are the challenge.  Because of this, and the other difficulties in making a hydrozone plan, we would recommend using the Schematic Irrigation tool for hydrozones.  That will give you full control of the colors, more ideal output, and it can be used for initial water window calculations:

Lastly, there is a way to manually colorize valve zones, choosing your own color for each.  Check that out here:

Thank you. The issue I was having is once you colorize all the zones if you highlight station it turns all the colorization off and you then have to colorize each zone independently, or am I missing a step?

Correct.  Currently, the manual color selection requires manually coloring all zones.
