Here’s my wish list, in no real order of priority, and no expectation of quick (or any) implementation, and some might even be ridiculous:

  • 1.       Show application rate along with total flow with the Highlight Station button.  I’m constantly comparing the app rates of various areas, which requires a valve, pipe, and pipe sizing before I can click on the “Analysis” button to get the app rate. 
  • 2.       MP Rotators:  Allow use of 30 psi heads when first setting up a project, instead of manually setting the design pressure and editing each head’s text to show PRS30 heads, etc.  Allow a lot more MP’s than currently allowed—sometimes I need multiple pop-up heights and multiple pressures, and I’ve run into the “max number of this head type allowed” message.
  • 3.       Show reduced flow as well as radius on MP rotators.  Might be a good idea for other nozzle types, too, if that’s even possible.
  • 4.       Irrigation schedule/more on the MP Rotators.  If you allow setting up 30 psi MPs at the beginning, would this mean that the heads, when listed in a spreadsheet schedule, would be grouped together?  Currently, 30- and 40-psi heads are jumbled together.  I have to move them around to get proper totals.  I do LOTS of material take-offs for my clients.
  • 5.       Critical analysis:  show the critical station flow as well as the pressure.
  • 6.       When reducing symbol sizes in Preferences, have that include other items, like pipe hops, pipe size and valve call-outs, etc.  I reduce symbol sizes to reduce drawing clutter without having to scale the drawing smaller.  Big pipe hops (comparatively) look weird, and big valve call-outs get in the way of things.
  • 7.       Also, when setting a custom symbol size, have it stick with only the drawing you’re working on.   It’s a pain to set 70% reduced heads on a 20-scale drawing, then move to a 10-scale drawing which I set at 100%, only to find I’ve laid out a few dozen heads reduced in size.
  • 8.       Symbols with text don’t properly reduce, so I have to manually scale them.
  • 9.       When piping and forming a perpendicular (tee) connection, the system will sometimes suck over the pipe to the end of the pipe I’m about to connect, ruining my perfectly orthogonal layout.  Can this be fixed?
  • 10.   Matchlines:  Have the matchline text appear at the midpoint of the match line (instead of the originating end), on the clear side of the bubble (instead of ON the line).
  • 11.   I often use small drip line areas with application rates similar to spray zones (.9gph x 12” x 12” is about 1.5”/hr, same as a typical fixed spray zone) and connect them together, to save a control valve when irrigating an annoying 10’ x 2’ strip, for example.  When I do this, and size a spray zone, the check arcs on all heads all get highlighted by a Layer 0 entity, which I have to delete.  This little trick solves many problems with areas too small for sprayheads, and dedicating an entire control valve to a 1gph zone is excessive.

 

There you have it!  Land FX is great, so even if none of these ever happen, it’s still the best irrigation design program ever.  Thanks for looking.

2. Is already in progress, and might be released as soon as this Friday.

3. I'm not sure what this would be.  A mockup would be helpful.

5. Critical Station is the one with highest pressure, not necessarily the highest flow.  What is the purpose of showing the critical station's flow?

7. This is best accomplished by having multiple preference sets, one for 100%, and one for 70%.

8. Note sure what this refers to.

9. Need an example case for this.

#2:  Yay!  I'm especially happy about this one!

#3:  The system always shows the same flow for a given nozzle, no matter how far one reduces the radius.  In the MP Rotator line-up, for example, the flow must be reduced at a given radius in order to maintain the matched precipitation rates across the range of nozzles and radii. If I reduce a bunch of MP1000's down from 14' to 10, the flow has to reduce.  LFX still shows the same flow, and an artificially high application rate because of it.  However, per Hunter, we can generally count on the same rates (0.4'/hr for the standard nozzles; 0.8"/hr for the SR800/815 nozzles), so this isn't really critical.

#5: I find the volume at the critical valve to be useful information.  I can always find it, though it would be nice to have it right there.

#7:  I assume I can find out about multiple preference sets in the KB?

#8:  Turns out Game Bar won't record what I need it to, so here's the text version: When placing, say, a backflow device, which, upon placing, has a "BF" in it, it won't respect the equipment size reduction I've set in Preferences.  While the symbol is still in the crosshairs, it appears to be the correct size, but after placing, it jumps back to the 100% size.  This applies to back flows, meters, master valves, drip operation indicators, rain sensors, etc. where there's a letter or two in the symbol.

#9:  Looks like the attached after the pipe gets "sucked" over.  It's as if the snap function is too strong or somethin

Tom,

All great wish list items! I'm stoked about #2 getting implemented soon too!

From your item #9: I also have the pet peeve of the orthogonal lines getting skewed when clicking on them to place a perpendicular 'tee'. I know that it doesn't affect anything on the calcs. if they are skewed but I like having a clean irrigation plan with straight lines like you. So when that happens, which is not very often, I end up deleting the affected pipe segments and placing them again until they are orthogonal. Like you, this isn't a deal breaker for me. Land F/X has definitely doubled and probably tripled my efficiency so the few times I have to "fix" a Land F/X quirk is no problem at all.

I've gotten good at catching that skew, and hitting "undo" before getting too far ahead.  An annoyance, but not a real problem.

More notes:

#3 is by design - specifically, because a contractor might not reduce the radius as such, so we keep the flow as full to account for worst case.  Although we did fight this for years with the PCS screens before finally giving in, so I suppose it's possible, but it would be a lot of work to accomplish this.  When by definition, it should be a smallish number of heads that are reduced as such, so it shouldn't affect the calculations or pipe sizing dramatically.

 

#8 is a bug!  Should be fixed this week.

 

#9 For the life of me I can't replicate this.

When the game bar bug from item #8 is fixed later this week, I'll post the recording here of the 'skew' that can happen when connecting pipe segments. After I post that, I can send in a ticket with our drawing files and maybe you'll be able to see if something is wrong with our drawing file(s) that somehow causes the quirkiness for us from time to time.

Again, not a real problem because it seldom happens but I would feel better if you got to see it firsthand because then it won't be just me and Tom seeing it, lol.

BTW, it took me like 20 or so tries before I got it to skew the orthogonal pipe segment so it hardly ever happens. When I get a chance later this week I'll send in a ticket with my files so you all can take a look at them. Maybe I have something odd set up for my UCS or snaps, or some other setting that I don't know about. Thanks again for the super fast responses and support. This is yet another thing I love about Land F/X.
