currently in refnotes, 'place' only works for areas and amenities. For notation and length, it defaults to the keynote label placement. For the length item, I would like 'place' to put you on the layer for that item, and into a drawing mode.

Example, for wall plans in a subdivision, we may have 3 or 4 wall types, on their own layer. Using the place tool, it would put me on the proper layer for that wall type, and into drawing a polyline.

Thoughts?
That's a good idea.
We originally had just a prompt to assign the layer if it hadn't yet.
But that was found to be rarely used.
This seems as good an idea as any -- although it does present some possible confusion by simply exiting the Manager with that layer active. But I still like it.

For a little background - this is coming out of us currently doing some new employee training, and dealing with CADD standards. Getting people to draw stuff on the right layers... Many years ago, we had a rather idiot proof system when we were on Microstation. We had a button to draw sidewalk. A button to draw header, etc. I thought about adding a bunch of buttons that did this, but liked the idea of it being integrated with the Refnotes.

As an added thought, when you go to the 'layer' pull down, as an option, it could give you a list of standard layers that may not already be in the drawing. In that case, we could add several standard items to our refnotes with CADD standard layers, then make it a template. The layer wouldn't already have to be in the drawing, it would be added when the refnote item was placed.

Well, we already have our Layer States tool, I'd say the proper thing to do would be to just customize those, and load your desired layers very quickly.
