Brian, yes at this time opening the template, importing the new plant, and re-saving the template is the best way.
You can always set a scheduled time during the year to create Entire Palette schedules to a spreadsheet of your recent projects, and then an entire palette schedule to spreadsheet of your template and just compare and decide if there's any plants from recent projects that should be added and do it all at once. Plan for every 6-12 months to do this comparison.
It's easy.
- Open a new blank drawing (don't save it)
- Open the project list and assign it to a recent project or the template
- Run a plant schedule and check the spreadsheet and entire palette options (and any other options you'd like - keep in mind symbol and photo would only send the block name of the symbol and the photo's file name to a spreadsheet).
- In the same blank drawing, open the project list again, assign to the next project, repeat. For even up to 100 projects in a year, this would take 30min-1hr for them all. Good office proprietary knowledge maintenance routine.
- Format and compare the spreadsheets.
