For some reason when I create a Reference Notes Schedule category 04 heading is duplicated and some separate elements are under each heading (not duplicated).

Yes, the workaround is the one in the documentation page to use code only. You can place a code and symbol schedule to the side to easily grab the symbols to also line those up.

Seaweed,

Here's our documentation page with the solution for this. This is happening because you're showing symbols and the schedule wants to separate the area and volume symbols like it separates the amenity symbols.

Division or Subdivision Title Repeating in the Reference Notes Schedule

Hi Amanda,

will I see you tomorrow? Secondly, is there a workaround?

Hmmm.. That doesn't sound like a LandFX solution, but I'll have to accept it. The problem with the work-around is that if the schedule is regenerated after adding additional items the symbol will not line up with the description. This can lead to human error. The designer could be unaware that a symbol was faked into the schedule.

For instance:

What if a symbol which was to identify a small area of mulch (500 square feet). It was manually placed next to the mulch, but another category was subsequently added. Later, the schedule was regenerated and it shifted the mulch down one item and is now located next to what was supposed to be a large hydroseed area (5,000 sf). That contractor change order could be directed to the landscape architect. Scary.

Of course we need to show both, and are glad that this is an option to do so was added, but it just seems like it was almost a completed task, but the coder was pulled off onto another project before it was finished.

We'll leave the additional category headings as awkward as it is. We may look bad, but we've reduced the potential impacts from a human error.

The reasoning behind the header being repeated, is that the Units are different -- cubic yards versus square feet.  So it is intended to help draw attention to that, and if any other aspects of the header need to alter.  So it's actually intended to reduce human error.

Okee Dokee. BTW. Thanks for the GREAT time! Out of control fun!

Jeremiah,

Could you please clarify.  If I understand you then I should have multiple duplicate category headings shown.  Please see attached duplicate category heading.  The problem with this that I see is that we don't always have that much room on the sheet and we are continually editing the schedules to remove the heading.

Thank you,

Wes

Wes,

I'm not sure why the heading is being duplicated in that example.  It could be that you have sub-divisions defined for the FN division?

As you can see I have added user fields for column's but I haven't created any sub-divisions in any of our reference divisions.  I appreciate any help in solving this.

Thank you,

Wes

Then you'll need to send in the drawing along with your data files using the Tech Support feature.

I've copied this here to aid others that may be having this problem also (and I'm guessing that there are a lot of you).

Okay, Back on Nov. 15, 2019 I started a thread on the community forum. Unfortunately, this issue has come up again and it really makes no sense. It doesn't matter if they are specifying different units (ea, sqft or cuyd). We want the elements to show up in order (which they are now), but we don't want the headings to keep repeating. The 02 New Construction Elements heading is showing up three different times. It should only show up once. How can we fix this? I looked all over the KB, but may have missed it.

BTW, We still want the option to include NA in the Detail column for the elements that don't have details associated with them.

Right now the system will split up different refnote types like that if you choose to show symbols. It will still try to keep the symbols in order, though, which is why you're getting 3 headings. If you change 02-01 to 02-03, you'll only get 2 headings.

Thank you for that example of how you'd like it to look. I'll pass it to Jer, but I've gotten the impression that as soon as you're combining symbols and divisions it's difficult to get it to not place the header when changing symbol types.

To remove the headers you definitely don't want, use viewports to splice it out.

Noted on the custom detail column. It's still on the radar. We have quite a few detail improvements already scheduled that we're working through to the summer.

Thanks, Amanda

Hi Amanda,

We're not using viewports now, but that seems like a better idea. Right now we're exploding the reference note schedule removing the redundant headings, moving the tags and symbols to have them line up with the descriptions and making it look right.  But I think that we'll start unsing the viewport option since once it's set up, when the unit amounts change, we won't have to create a new schedule, explode it and make it look right. I'm looking forward to LandFX fixing this problem.

I don't write code, but if I did it would look something like this:

if heading X is already present in output

then locate this beneath the next item in sequential order

if block, hatch or ID are missing

then leave that cell in the table blank.

Disregard: type of unit, if symbol or hatch or block are shown.

Laugh amongst your selves. I did admit that I don't write code (well, maybe a little script).
