One of the things I love about LandFX is that it takes care of the layers and tedium behind the scenes, especially in planting/irrigation/details. One area I would like to see more development is in the Site Design side... for example, trails and pathway layout.
PART 1
Currently when I do a pathway layout, I start with a centerline alignment, then offset my sides. If I'm feeling fancy, I then either add a hatch (refnotes), or scorelines (a dot pattern pline set to the sidewalk width works great).
If I need to revise the alignment, then I: (1) delete the score/hatch, (2) the sides, (3) realign the centerline, (4) re-offset, and (5) rehatch/score. (6) Bleh.
We use another software for conceptual planning and grading called SiteOPS. It has a great implementation that is part 'multiline', and part 'C3D Alignment'. You have a default pathway width and vertex radius set. (example, a bike path that is 8' wide with a 250' minimum centerline radius.) I draw a centerline alignment with angular vertices. It dynamically offsets the sides and adds the radii. If I want to adjust the pathway, I can grip the vertex and move it, change the radius, add/delete a vertex, add a transition point to a wider path width, etc. The offsets and radii are auto updated.
PART 2
the interface could be either a pathway button on the FX Site ribbon, or through the refnotes - specifically refnotes that are 'length' items. (see my other feature request for "Refnotes length option"
BONUS ROUND
Would it be possible for adjacent areas to be associated with this new pathway alignment. In the above example on revising a sidewalk, I deleted the offsets, but in reality, I also have to delete the hatch boundaries for the adjacent turf/mulch areas. After revising the pathway, I "bpoly" new hatch boundaries, and refnote hatch them. (Engineer: "Cant you just move your sidewalk line?") Yes, if the sidewalk changed a little, I could move the grip points for the hatch boundary to approximate the new alignment.
Ideally, I would LOVE to grab the grips of the sidewalk centerline vertices, adjust radii, add/delete vertices, and have the offsets and adjacent hatch areas auto update.
Yes, I know this is complex, but that's why its in the bonus round.
