I wanted to check whether the new slope callout is still automatically assigned to a specific layer, as it was previously, or if this behavior has changed.
Currently, when creating a standalone slope callout manually, it is being placed on whichever layer is active at the time—instead of defaulting to the standard block layer as before. This only seems to happen when the callout is manually created, not when it is generated between two points.
Can you please confirm if this is the intended behavior?

This was an oversight, in upgrading the slope callout. Thanks for pointing it out. It will be resolved with the update posting later this week.
