I've got a big project with 2" meters and 3" backflow devices and 3' and 4" HDPE main line. I'm specifying brass from the meter, through the backflow and all other components to the master valve, after which the main line becomes HDPE. Though I can easily remove any pipe sizes, and write "brass pipe to be same size as backflow device," it would be nice to be able to both choose brass as a main line type, and to increase the velocity through it so the hydraulic calculations are done correctly.

Is this possible?

Thanks!

Tom,
This is a bit of a tricky one but still possible to achieve. Since the system is only going to allow you to have one speed of water per POC, you will need to add a second POC and a Cap to the project. This new POC will allow you to set the new velocity to accommodate your brass section.

Since you already have one POC in as the HDPE, you know the total pressure and flow requirement of the system. Take these numbers and place them into the Cap. Then, place the new custom POC at the very beginning of the design (before the Cap and original POC) and pipe it to the Cap using the pipe mainline tool. You can then size the new POC and confirm things are still well with your system.

If you need any further clarification or help, please just give us a call and we can walk it through with you.
I see! Thanks.
