I have a new employee in my office and we were going through some training and it dawned on me that the current order of the commands in the size and verification commands in the irrigation pulldown could be changed to reflect the order of operation rather than like commands. currently it looks like:

Highlight Station
Verify Lateral
Verify Mainline
Valve Callout
Size Lateral
Size Mainline

if you change the order to:
Highlight Station
Verify Laterals
Size Laterals
Callout Valves
Verify Main
Size Main

you could just go down the list and not jump around, once you run the verification and you get the green light you know that you can go to the next check or verification, so on and so forth. I know a lot of people use the ribbon but for our new employees it would be great to not have to hold there hand and just tell them to go tot the next command in the list...

Just a thought that would save us time and might help others as well, Keep up the great work, we Love LandFX!

rdluther,
It sounds like you should be using the Ribbon layout then. The buttons are actually laid out almost in the exact order you are looking for. Using the pulldown menus are a way of the past! :) Take a look at the link below on how to load the ribbon layout and see if this clears up anything for you.

We went back and forth on that issue when we laid out the Ribbon initially.
You've missed a couple in your recap, and including those highlights the challenges of it.
Currently, the order is:
Draw Laterals
Highlight Station
Draw Mainline
Verify
Size
Label
Edit

You are proposing primarily redo-ing the Verify and Size, as so:
Draw Laterals
Highlight Station
Draw Mainline
Verify/Size Lateral
Verify/Size Mainline
Label
Edit

The deciding reason we opted not to do it that way, is the Ribbon would be left with two Verify icons, one for Laterals and one for Mainline, with "Size Pipe" not visible at all.
We felt it was more important to organize as such.

That being said, we have fallen victim to the exact same issue, and sometimes start clicking on the wrong dropdown.
We have some other Ribbon improvements pending, and this is on the calendar to consider.
Also any other users are encouraged to chime in here on this issue.

Ah yes, Jake is correct, I was assuming you mentioned the Ribbons!

The dropdowns have been deprecated by Autodesk. it is very likely they will not be available in a future release of AutoCAD.

I currently use the ribbons because in my mind I know what the next step is, it is just easier for newer employees to have it is a list, maybe the command buttons could rest in two locations one by like actions (verify or size) and the command button could also live in a ribbon button that dropped down all the verification commands in order of operation
The order of operations is not fixed.
Some people like to label their valves as they place them. Some people like to draw the mainline first. Some people use our Schematic Irrigation to lay out everything, call out every valve, and size the mainline before ever placing one head.

For the Ribbon, the primary challenge was to have a short text title, with an icon that would most probably lead them to the right tool. If not, they would ideally only need to look in one other dropdown.

But like I said, excellent feedback, we will certainly keep this in mind.

i am only talking about the verification and sizing operations that do have an order to them you cannot size mainline until certain criteria is met ( size laterals verify laterals etc.) if the first think you hit is size laterals with out connected heads, or connected laterals, or connected valves, sized valves etc. you get a check list of things not complete (a cool feature) in that reason I would not put Verify Mainline in the third position i would move it down the list. I agree I actually place mainline rather early and jump back and forth on placing mainline and valves and even laterals, but the last thing we do in our office is the verification and sizing commands as a check to show completeness this is where a little adjustment could be great for a new user... not of great importance just if you are thinking of updating menus or pulldowns or ribbons that would be a nice verification checklist
thanks for listening.
