    Use a Custom Plot Scale

    Updated on: December 03, 2025

    Issue

You're not finding the scale you want to use in the Viewport Plot Scale menu in the Plot Scale dialog box.

Viewport Plot Scale menu in the Plot Scale dialog box

    Cause

The Plot Scale dialog box (updated with version 21.85 in August 2025) only shows commonly used standard scales. More information.

    Solution

    • Use a custom scale in Model Space
    • Use a custom scale in a Paper Space viewport

Use a custom scale in Model Space

To use a non-standard scale, type USERR5 into the Command line and press Enter. Enter your desired scale factor, using our Metric and Imperial Scale Factors as a reference for which scale factor is correct.

For instance, 1"=15' would be 180 in an Architectural Inches drawing, or 15 in a Decimal Feet drawing.

If you feel that a missing scale should be considered an industry standard scale, let us know in a technical support ticket. Make sure to include a reference to that standard scale documented in a trusted guide.

Use a custom scale in a Paper Space viewport

    1. Click the border of the Paper Space (layout) viewport whose scale you want to set. That viewport will now be selected.

    2. Type PROP in the Command line and press Enter to open the Properties panel. If necessary, click Display Locked, then click No.

Custom Scale field in the Properties panel

    4. In the Properties panel, under Misc, enter your preferred scale in the Custom Scale field.
