The Application Was Unable to Start Correctly (Opening AutoCAD or F/X CAD)

Issue

 

 

You received one of the following error messages:

 

Error: The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142). Click OK to close the application.

 

or

 

Error: The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000005). Click OK to close the application.

Cause

Possible causes of this error include software installed on your computer that conflicts with your CAD installation.

 

 

Solution

Open the following reg key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Microsoft\Windows NT > CurrentVersion > Windows > LoadAppInit_DLLs and change the Value data to 0.

 

To access the folder path shown above, open the Run dialog box by pressing the Windows and R keys (Windows) or the Command and R keys (Mac using Parallels Desktop).

In the Run dialog box, type the word regedit into the Open field. Click OK.

Open the Registry Editor

 

A dialog box resembling this one may open. Click Yes to open the Registry Editor.

 

The Registry Editor will open. Expand the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE folder by clicking the arrow to the left of the folder name.

From the folder HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, continue expanding folders to navigate to the folder path Software > Microsoft > Windows NT > Current Version > Windows > LoadAppInit_DLLs.

 

Double-click the reg key LoadAppInit_DLLs

 

Double-click the reg key LoadAppInit_DLLs, pictured above.

Type 0 in the Value data

 

Type 0 in the Value data field. Then click OK.

 

Reboot your computer to enact the change.
