External References (Xref) Manager Opening Slowly the First Time

    Updated on: April 25, 2022

    Issue

The External References (Xref) Manager is opening extremely slowly – but only the first time you open it after opening CAD.

    External References

    Cause

A reference to a fonts folder in your CAD Options is likely causing this issue.

    Solution

Type Options in the Command line, and press Enter.

The Options dialog box will open. Select the Files tab, and expand the Support File Search Path folder by clicking the plus (+) sign next to it.

    Options dialog box

Scroll down in the Support File Search Path, and look for a Fonts folder. It might be on a letter drive (in the example below, the folder is on the Z drive).

If you see a similar folder, click it to highlight it. Click Remove, then click Apply.

    Click Remove then click Apply

The fonts folder will be removed from the Support File Search Path. Restart CAD, and open the Xref Manager. It should now open quickly.
