Changing Layer Color Causes Drawing or Xref Linework to Disappear

Changing a layer color results in almost all drawing lines not showing

Issue

A drawing or Xref file is going blank, or mostly blank, when you try to manipulate or change the colors of its layers. You may be unable to select some of the linework in the drawing.

We've seen this issue in drawing files that Land F/X users have received from consultants and have Xrefed into their main drawing.

You may still be having this issue after attempting some drawing cleanup steps such as:

  • Exploding the drawing
  • Configuring our recommended settings in the Options dialog box, Open and Save tab (including setting ObjectARX Applications to Show Proxy Information dialog box)
  • Completing the steps for AECTOACAD or running our Clean Export tool

Cause

The drawing file is likely retaining drawing errors found in the original file.

Solution

1. With the problematic file open, type AUDIT in the Command line and press Enter. When prompted whether or not to fix any errors detected, type Y for Yes.

Check the Command line to check for and correct any errors in the drawing.

2. Type RegenALL (or REA) in the Command line and press Enter.

The linework should now appear correctly and should remain in place when you change layers.

Still having the issue with the linework disappearing? Send us a technical support ticket for further investigation, letting us know that you've attempted these steps.
