PLOT Command Locks Up or Freezes Before Reaching the Plot Dialog Box

    Updated on: January 26, 2023

    Issue

You're trying to plot your drawing, but the PLOT command is locking up or freezing before you're able to reach the Plot dialog box.

You may be able to plot from Model Space, but not from a Paper Space Layout tab.

    Cause

This issue occurs when F/X CAD or AutoCAD is unable to read the plotter that's currently set to the layout.

    Solution

    1. Type PAGESETUP in the Command line and press Enter.

    2. In the Page Setup Manager, select the layout sheet you're trying to plot, then click Modify.
    Page Setup Manager

    PAGESETUP command

    3. In the Page Setup dialog box, open the Name menu below Printer/plotter.

The plotter causing the issue will likely be selected in this menu.

To address the issue, you may need to update that plotter's driver or otherwise have your IT admin troubleshoot the plotter.

    4. Your next step will depend on your installation type:

    • Single-User installations: Reboot your computer.

    • Multi-User installations with an office server: Your server may need to be rebooted for the plotter changes to take effect. If so, have your office admin reboot the server, making sure nobody in your office is using our software or otherwise using the server.
