PDF of Your Drawing Has Lines or Stripes Over Hatches

    Updated on: April 25, 2022

    Issue

You plotted your drawing to PDF, and you noticed some lines or strips over hatch objects that aren't supposed to be there, or black lines are plotting incorrectly as colors.

Drawing with lines or strips over hatch objects

    Cause

This issue is a glitch with how PDF readers – Adobe Acrobat in particular – view vector-based solid hatches. The "lines" are actually connecting points along the outline wherever an arc occurs, and the black lines are reading the layer color incorrectly.

    Solution

You can change a setting inside Acrobat or Acrobat Reader to improve the look of your PDF:

    1. Click Edit.

    2. Click Preferences.

    3. Open the Page Display category.

Uncheck the Smooth Line Art option.

Is the Smooth Line Art option grayed out and can’t be unchecked?

If so, also uncheck the 2D Graphics Acceleration option.

Once 2D Graphics Acceleration is unchecked, the Smooth Line Art option will become available to uncheck.

After you've unchecked the Smooth Line Art option, your plan should plot correctly.
