Text in Discipline Graphic (Slope Callout, Spot Elevation, Northing/Easting Point, etc.) Not Showing Up in Xrefed Drawing

Issue

A block from our Discipline Graphics library is showing up in a working drawing, but that block's text goes missing when you Xref that drawing into another file. You may be experiencing this issue with:

  • Slope Callouts
  • Spot Elevation callouts
  • Northing/Easting Points
  • Area Callouts

Cause

The text that's failing to show up is an attribute definition rather than standard Text or MText, and the graphic has been exploded from its original block state.

Solution

The ideal solution would be to:

Example of a Slope Callout block with text appearing correctly

1. Place the block again to redefine the proper block name into the drawing.

2. Go through and replace all exploded versions of that block.

3. Reload the Xref.

If you don't want to keep the graphic as a block, you'll need to replace the attribute definition with standard Text or MText so it shows up properly when Xrefed into a drawing.

To do so, use our TXT2MTXT tool command, click the attribute definition, and adjust the newly converted MText to read properly.
