Issues with Updated Valve Callouts (March 2026)
Updated on: March 10, 2026
Issue
You're having issues with placing or working with valve callouts after our March 2026 update, including:
- You're noticing that the valve callouts look and behave differently from before when placed in a drawing, or
- You tried to use the right-click option to place a leaderless valve callout with the number next to the valve, but the callout is shifting sides and the text places outside the callout, as in the example to the right, or
- You want to use our valve callout colorization feature when using our Colorize Zones tool, but some or all of your callouts are not colorizing, as in the example shown below.
Cause
We updated to a new callout style in March 2026, changing the callouts to dynamic blocks for better functionality. You're likely experiencing one of these issues as a result of the update.
Solution
Your solution will depend on the exact issue with valve callouts you're experiencing:
- Valve callouts look and behave differently from before when placed in a drawing.
- You tried to use the right-click option to place a leaderless valve callout with the number next to the valve, but the callout is shifting sides and the text places outside the callout.
- You want to use our valve callout colorization feature when using our Colorize Zones tool, but some or all of your callouts are not colorizing.
Valve callouts look and behave differently from before when placed in a drawing.
Cause
You're seeing our updated callouts, likely in a plan where you previously used one of our old callout styles from before the March 2026 update.
Solution
If you want to use our legacy callout style to match an existing project, or you're having issues with the new callout style for any reason, set the USERI1 variable to a value of 9999 and you can continue using the old legacy callout styles.
Type USERI1 in the Command line and press Enter. When prompted to enter a value, type 9999 and press Enter again.
Keep in mind that this solution is a temporary fix for the project you're currently working on while you troubleshoot the issue. It will not be supported indefinitely, so we highly recommend moving forward with the new callout styles as soon as possible.
You tried to use the right-click option to place a leaderless valve callout with the number next to the valve, but the callout is shifting sides and the text places outside the callout.
Cause
Due to the complexity of the new dynamic callout, different lookups and flips are occurring. If you happened to right-click too close to the insertion point of the callout, the callout doesn't know how to flip.
Solution
1. Type ATTSYNC in the Command line and press Enter. Click the incorrect block.
You should see the text jump back into the callout.
2. Select the block, then type PROP in the Command line and press Enter to open the Properties panel.
In the Properties panel, set the Visibility States menu to the appropriate side.
The callout should return to the location where you set it initially.
To avoid this issue in the future, take care to extend the arrow a small distance away from the callout before right-clicking
.
You want to use our valve callout colorization feature when using our Colorize Zones tool, but some or all of your callouts are not colorizing.
Cause
Your drawing is using our old valve callouts from before the March 2026 update. The old valve callout styles don't include the mask layers that are necessary for adjusting colors with the Colorize Zones tool.
Solution
1. Type BLOCKEDIT in the Command line and press Enter. Select one newly placed valve callout.
2. Ensure that both visibility states for the callout are present, then use our Redefine Block tool on each left- and right-facing callout block.
3. Save, then close the Block Editor.
Your callouts should now be colorized throughout the drawing.
