LABash is always on our list of the year’s most-anticipated events. This year's installation, the 50th-annual event, will be themed "Rise Above Run" – a motif that not only evokes Cornell's famed Libe Slope but also points to landscape architecture's potential to create spaces that address the many challenges faced by modern society, including environmental and social justice issues. It's always fun as landscape architecture students and educators join industry professionals in a celebration of learning, networking, and transcending through landscape design.

Creative Director / Usage TechnicianLand F/X University Rep and Usage Technician Amanda Berry is fired up to give her lunch-and-learn presentation at CELA 2019.
Landscape architecture students will use a variety of software platforms over their careers. The industry is trending toward BIM, and this trend will inevitably continue as software continues to evolve. For landscape architecture, BIM means the use of specific tools and smart objects – as in placing "trees," "sprinklers," and "walls" rather than generic CAD blocks and lines.
Presented by Amanda Berry
Land F/X Usage Support
Land F/X has established itself as the premier BIM platform in the landscape architecture field, with more than half of all firms using it as an add-on to AutoCAD, SketchUp, Rhino, and/or Revit. It proves equally valuable in an academic setting, where the use of smart, industry-specific software helps focus instruction on design principles and methodologies rather than mundane and archaic CAD commands. This presentation by Amanda Berry will demonstrate these capabilities and show why they are imperative tools for today's students and tomorrow's design professionals.
Landscape architecture enthusiasts from across the globe will take over California’s capital city for the 2019 Council of Educators in Landscape Architecture (CELA). Hosted by UC Davis, the annual gathering of more than 300 Council members has a theme of Engaged Scholarship this year. The conversation will center on "collaboration and dialogue between academic and community partners, and between communities." See the official CELA 2019 website for a list of scheduled events.
Our Land F/X University Rep and Usage Technician, Amanda Berry, will be on hand to join the conversation and give a lunch-and-learn presentation of her own!
If you design irrigation systems, you’ll want to be at the 2018 IA Show in Long Beach. This annual irrigation-centric event is all about networking, professional development, and immersion in the latest technologies, techniques, and innovations.
As always, we’ll be well represented at IA this year. Land F/X Irrigation Specialist (and all-around good guy) Jake Lott will be presenting two valuable CAD Learning Lab workshops, both on Tuesday, December 4:

CELA is coming to Virginia Tech this year, and we’ll be there. This annual conference is always a hotbed of ideas and heated discussions about the societal, political, and environmental implications of landscape architecture. Land F/X rep Amanda Berry will be on hand to present her fascinating paper on the impact of BIM on landscape architecture. She presents at Session 1 on Thursday, March 22, at 9:30 a.m. in Room 3.
The 48th-annual LABash, held this year at Penn State University, promises an amazing collection of speakers and workshops that will help you get your foot in the door in your future profession. Speakers include landscape architects Gina Ford of Sasaki’s Urban Studio, Ken Smith of Ken Smith Workshop, and Susannah Drake of DLANDstudio Architecture + Landscape Architecture pllc – among many others. You’ll walk away with not only a broader perspective on how to break into the field, but with a deeper insight into the theoretical bases and practical implications of landscape architecture.
Visit our booth and chat with Land F/X CEO and head developer Jeremiah Farmer. Be sure to enter our Passport Drawing for a chance to win a trip, on our dime, to ASLA in Philadelphia later this year. Oh, and don’t miss Jeremiah’s workshop on Saturday, April 7, at 10 a.m. He’s looking forward to meeting you and answering your questions.

We always have a great time putting together our annual ASLA After-Party. This year, the theme will be L.A. Confidential, based on the film noir–detective aesthetic of the novel and film by the same name. The party takes place from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Crocker Club, 453 S Spring Street. Join us for food, drinks, and a scandalous celebration of the City of Angels’ nefarious (but fictional) past.

Not Your Father's AutoCAD: Bringing CAD Drafting into the Future of Landscape Architecture
If you're only drafting using the tools that come with AutoCAD, you're using a workflow from two decades ago. This session will introduce the essential tools that have evolved inside the Land F/X plugin for AutoCAD and SketchUp since then. Land F/X has evolved from a start-up established by a father and son in a garage into a widely used landscape architecture tool. Among its many features are a massive plant and site amenity database, ready-to-use symbols, colorization tools, and the ability to import a CAD drawing into a 3D model. All these features have been developed based on suggestions from landscape architects who use the software every day. Created based on the presenter's father's need for landscape architecture tools within AutoCAD, Land F/X speeds up the daily tasks of thousands of landscape architects worldwide.
Amanda Berry @ 4 p.m.
Rendering in AutoCAD and SketchUp with Land F/X
The best way to communicate your design intent to a client or the public is through colorful plan and 3D renderings. The level to which you take your renderings is only limited by the time you've budgeted to complete the task. This session will cover the tools Land F/X adds to AutoCAD and SketchUp to take renderings further within those programs in a few clicks. We'll show you how to spend less time creating a great rendering and, as a result, reduce your reliance on time-sucking post-production rendering software.
Are you stuck on how to travel to Maryland? Being far from Maryland is no excuse! I did the trek from Toronto to New Orleans one year. It's not too late firm up your travel plans. Here's how:
See you there!
