2018 Photo Contest Winners

The 2018 Land F/X Photo Contest Winners!

For hour after caffeinated hour, our judges had a blast poring over your entries. It’s time to reveal this year’s picks for the best projects created with Land F/X. Drumroll, please ...

Falling Waters Landscape Inc.

This year’s grand prize and Night Shot winner checked all the boxes: Artistically pleasing. Attention to framing, lighting, time of day, shadows, and angle. An enticing and livable outdoor site, plus a compelling story – all coalesced within a single photo. All told, this site drew us in and wouldn’t let us out without leaving behind a blue ribbon.

Outside spaces are meant to bring people together, and this one did just that – by inspiring consensus among our judges. The top entry in our Aerial category soared into our favor by depicting an awe-inspiring common area complete with lush planting areas, inviting lawn, and playful jack-style seats backed by a meandering bridge.

Dynamic Environments Inc.

Did someone say “unity of design”? Incorporating complementary angles and matching materials, this ultra-modern pool design is as stunning as the photo that immortalizes it. Framed by firepits and an eye-catching art feature, it’s a dynamic yet tranquil extension of the accompanying residence.

Category Winners

Our contest categories reflect the diversity in site types, visual media, and artistic originality we crave in each year’s collection of images. This year’s crop did not disappoint. Here are our judges’ selections for the best image in each category.

English Garden Design

One word portrays this picturesque planting design so profoundly, we had to say it thrice: “lush, lush, lush.” Elegantly overflowing with flora, it’s a veritable symphony of light and shade.

Irrigation is crucial to any golf course project. By depicting multiple emitter types at full blast amid vibrant greenery, this photo emphasizes the Country Club of Mobile’s beauty and systemic intricacy. Fore!

Combining a perfectly composed photo with a hardscape design that’s equal parts intricate and interesting, our Details winner floored us with its complementary materials and color palette.

This rendering isn’t just hyper-realistic – which grabbed our attention from the get-go. Even more so, it shows how a 3D model can influence the overall design through use of sun/lighting conditions.

Providing an inviting view of an equally inviting common area, this series of photos from on high captured a simple yet effective design, conveying space flawlessly while remaining visually pleasing.

Aerial

Coleman & Associates

We asked for images of populated spaces in action, and this one delivered the goods. Teeming with life and activity (and light and shadow), the image epitomizes successful design of a space that outshines its relative confinement.

Lively Space

Loft Six Four

This project and accompanying animation are awesome in both the literal and figurative senses. The integration of multiple disciplines in a seamless fly-through commanded our attention.

Video Animation

Mills Design Group

It’s more than a great photo (which it is) – it’s an Easter egg hunt with more than a couple of eggs to find. The art made us gawk, and the Bob’s Big Boy mascot made us giggle.
