This Week's Trick: Do Right and Left Labels Look Different?

Quick Trick: Do Right and Left Labels Look Different?

Do Right and Left Plant Labels Look Different?

Do the right and left versions of your plant labels look completely different from each other when placed? For example, you may see a callout box in your labels that extend to the left of plants in your drawing, but no box in the labels on the right side. Or the boxes look different from each other from side to side. If so, your drawing might include a predefined block of an old label style.

This Week's Trick: Get The Most Out of New Irrigation Software

How to Get the Most Out of New Irrigation Software

How to Get The Most Out of New Irrigation Software

Incorporating interviews from a handful of irrigation designers, this article on the Landscape Management website provides an overview and analysis of the various software platforms at their disposal – including some nice mentions of Irrigation F/X. We’re especially grateful to interviewee (and Land F/X client) Matthew Copp of LRC Landscape Architecture in Oxford, MS, who remarks on the efficiency of plan revisions enabled by Irrigation F/X, while also noting that “updates and modifications – like user commands, symbols and schedules – are based off of user input.” Have a few minutes? It's a quick read.

This Week's Trick: Concept Lines - Select Existing Polyline

Quick Trick: New Ability to Select an Existing Polyline

Concept Lines: Select Existing Polyline

We've recently updated our Concept Lines tool to allow the selection of an existing polyline – even one in an Xref – to convert into a Concept Line. This new capability will make it even easier to generate Concept Lines (available in our Concept Graphics Manager), often used to represent a linear object such as a boundary, or usage such as pedestrian, bike, or vehicular travel. Plus, you can use our FXPLODE command to instantly convert your Concept Line back into a polyline.

This Week's Trick: New Valve Size Attribute

New Valve Size Attribute

for Valve Callouts.
Our valve callout source files now include a Size attribute, so there's no longer a need to have a different source file for each valve size. As a result, you'll only need to maintain two callout files (one for the right callout and one for the left) for each valve callout style you customize. The (slightly) bad news: If you've already customized any of our valve callout styles, you'll need to make your changes again in the new source file(s) – which won't take long. Need to customize our valve callouts? See the links below for instructions.

This Week's Trick: Copy Tools Behaving Differently

Need to Install or Upgrade?

Copy Tools Behaving Differently?

That's by design.

You may have noticed that our Copy along Line and Arc tools for plants, and Copy along Line and Polyline tools for irrigation heads, are acting in a way that’s a bit unfamiliar. For example, you might not see the Copy Spacing dialog box like you did before. Don’t worry – we updated these tools to include a bunch of super-handy keyboard commands for fine-tuning your spacing of the copied plants. You can type K with the tool active to see the commands. Just want to proceed straight to the Copy Spacing dialog box like before? Just type 1 and you’ll be on your merry way. Check out the links below to see how these updated features work. We think you'll love them!

Don't Lose Your Work. Autosave!

Don't Lose Your Work.

Autosave!

Sometimes it's easy to forget to save. AutoCAD includes an Autosave option that provides a foolproof way to avoid losing (potentially) hours of work in your drawing. Set your own time interval for how often you want Autosave to engage. You'll thank yourself later.

Irrigation Equipment Not Functioning Correctly?

Are you noticing that an irrigation component you’ve added to your project isn’t behaving in the way you think it should? Specific nozzles not available? Keyboard commands for changing the nozzle not working? Heads not placing as full or partial circles as you expect them to? It might be time to go to the manufacturer’s catalog and confirm that the options you want are actually available with that equipment. With our help, you can open any participating manufacturer’s online catalog with the click of a button, right from CAD.

Drawing Corruption: An Easily Defeatable Enemy

Drawing Corruption:

An Easily Defeatable Enemy.

Whenever you open a drawing file you've received from someone else, you run the risk of corruption in your drawing. Think of drawing corruption as a sort of virus that spreads between DWG files, causing issues ranging from slow AutoCAD performance to the all-out loss of your work. Fortunately, you can protect your plans by zapping drawing corruption with a few simple steps. Follow our drawing cleanup steps each time you open a file from another CAD user, and you'll keep your work safe.
