Getting Started with Irrigation F/X
February 13, 2026
Presented by: Cole Chaltas
Take a walk through Irrigation F/X and see how our smart tools, combined with a proper setup, make irrigation design faster and smoother. We'll cover how to get your drawings off to the right start, explore features that streamline everyday tasks, and share some practical tips directly from our irrigation usage support team. Whether you're opening Irrigation F/X for the first time or looking to refine how you use it, you'll pick up some useful takeaways you can put to work right away.

0:00 – 3:22: Intro/TOC
3:23 – 4:36: Irrigation Design Resources
- Take classes or review learning material through the
Irrigation Association, or with manufacturers like Hunter and
Rain Bird.
Land F/X Resources
4:37 – 7:54: Know Your Requirements
- Irrigation designs are unique to their respective site, and client.
- Getting to know these aspects of your project early will help you create a design that fits its requirements.
- Get familiar with different irrigation application types, and when/where to use them.
Performance charts (6:17)
- Understand how to read and interpret performance charts from manufacturers.
- Whether it's friction loss/velocity charts for pipe, nozzle charts for heads, or something else, you should be able to use these resources to help ensure that your design will function the way you intended when it is installed.
7:55 – 9:36: Typical Workflow
1. Project/Sheet Setup
2. Determine Your Water Source(s)
3. Determine Irrigation Type(s) and Applications
4. Add and Place Equipment
5. Zones/Circuiting
6. Pipe the Equipment
7. Verify Your Design
8. Size the Pipe
9. Generate Schedules
10. Plot Your Design
9:37 – 12:10: Units and Scale
- Units and Scale are some of the most vital aspects of any design.
- This is the link between how important parts of the design, like your symbols, will be ultimately sized on your sheets.
☆Always ensure you have correct unit and scale settings before you begin your work.
- Review: Set Scale & Units
12:11 – 16:07: Irrigation Symbols
- We have a large offering of default symbols for different pieces of equipment in Irrigation F/X.
- Symbols are just CAD blocks. Once you are comfortable with their function in the program, you can even edit ours, or create your own.
Making changes (14:08)
- Don't fret. Changes happen, and revisions need to be made.
- You can use the Rescale Objects feature to change the scaling of the objects in your drawing.
- Need to change your equipment's symbols after they have already been placed in the drawing? You can do that too. Note: Rotary heads are unique and require additional steps.
- Also review: Move Piped Equipment and Delete Station
