Is there a way to change the USERi4 default from 0 (natural spacing) to 2 (triangular spacing)? I understand the benefits of the natural spacing, but we prefer to specify the triangular pattern. It's been difficult to remember to change that setting in new files so we're looking for a way to globally set the USERi4 to 2 for all of our future drawings.

That setting is saved with the dwg. So you would be welcome to set it in your template dwt, which would then affect all drawings.
