Hi,

Just wanting to find out if there is a setting to change the plant name caps preferences for genus and species separately. Currently, there only seems to be the option to turn the entire code to caps.

In Australia, the correct way to write plant names is to have the genus name in caps, and the species in lower case. Its the same with plant labels - first 3 letters of genus in caps and 3 letters of species in lower case. There also are standard ways to write codes when dealing with different plant varieties blah blah ...., so we would like a way to customize land f/x to reflect this.

We have in the past changed names that we commonly use manually, but when the database is automatically updated it overrides the changes we have made.

Is it possible to customize this permanently? Can dreams come true?

Regards,

Reece,
You are correct, in your preferences there is an option to make schedules in uppercase. However, when you add the plants to your project you can adjust the name when editing the plant. So if you wish the Genus to be all caps while the species stays lowercase, you can do this. Running your schedule should reflect your adjusted plant names and should hold the changes when regenerating the schedules.

When labeling your plants, you will be limited to its current output. We can definitely talk more about getting some of these requests on our wishlist and see what is or is not possible. You can adjust the code as well, however, it will always remain capitalized. Again, something that we can discuss further about possible future updates.

The closest we have already is just the option on whether or not the Code is automatically capitalized.
But as you mention, any time you add a new plant, it will revert to all caps.
We also have a similar pending wishlist item for the scientific name to be italicized.

This is all very little coding required, really more a matter of just integrating the options into the Preferences screen.
I think we can certainly get to this early next year.

Is there a date set to when the scientific name will be italicized?

Thank you,

Wes
Wes,

There is currently no date set for it. Our current high-priority Planting items are for Plant Mixes, additional Import options, and Schedule improvements. One of those schedule improvements is italicized botanical name, however, so it appears to be squarely at the bottom of the high-priority items.
