Land F/X Block Creation from Scratch: Simple Version

This guide outlines the main steps for creating a CAD block from scratch to meet Land F/X Standards. Refer to the detailed guidelines for a more detailed version of the steps listed below.

This content is intended solely for content creators who are creating blocks for use by Land F/X.

Steps to Create New CAD Blocks

1. Open a new drawing file in CAD.

 

2. Set the proper units and Preference Set.

3. Use the Load Layers tool to load the appropriate Layer States.

4. Draw the block using the following standards:

  • Linework: Use only Polyline, Circle, Arc, and Hatch commands.
  • 1:1 scale
  • Insertion point must be at the origin (0,0).
  • Draw simple, closed shapes. Only show enough detail as necessary.

 

5. Color the block using the following standards:

  • Solid color only.
  • Layer: L-(TYPE)-COLR-FILL
  • All hatches: Send to back.

 

7. Save the block, ensuring proper naming and location.

 

8. Create PNG and SVG files if necessary.

Block Checklist

  • No ellipses, splines, text, or dimensions.
  • No Xrefs, Proxy Objects (Proxies), DGN linetypes, or Registered Applications (RegApps).
  • No groups or blocks.
  • Use only Land F/X standard layers.
  • All layer names contain the appropriate 4-letter layer type. (Not XXXX!)
  • All object properties set ByLayer (except color fills).
  • All objects at 0 elevation.
  • Insertion base set to 0,0.
  • Insertion point set at the appropriate place on the block.
  • Zoom to Extents.
  • Model drawn in inches or millimeters at 1:1 scale.
  • Layer 0 set to active (once finished).
  • COLR layer visibility turned off (once finished).
  • Run the PRG command to ensure that only the layers with context are present.
