User Fields Cut Off in Plant Schedule

Issue

Your user field values are cut off in your Plant Schedule.

Plant Schedule with user field values cut off

Cause

You've likely exceeded the 115-character limit for your user fields.

The user fields in the Plant Sizes Preferences screen are combined into a single shared 115-character field that is left blank.

If you select the field values from the menu, it assembles the combined field characters until it reaches the total character limit.

Some notes might cut off sooner than others, because the other user fields that comprise that plant info is shorter/longer than others, and the last column will suffer the most if there aren't any more characters to use.

The general application of these user fields would be to keep their descriptions shorter than what shows when you view them in the drop-down list.

We created the Remarks field in the Plant Info dialog box for anything longer, as it has no limit, plus it wraps properly to account for any length of text.

You can add remarks to each plant's data when:

  • Adding plants to a project
  • Editing plants

Solution

Longer descriptions are typically (and more appropriately) handled using the Remarks field. If you decide that the user fields are where you need to put these options, take care to not exceed the 115-character count across all user field options.
