Webinar: Sheet Setup and Management
DATE: October 23, 2020
TIME: 10 a.m. Pacific Time
PRESENTER:
Paul Houchin

Proper configuration of your sheets – the different layouts that make up your drawing set – is a crucial component of design in AutoCAD. Setting up and maintaining sheets for design plans, construction drawings, and other documents is essential for landscape architects. Our Sheet Index is a simple yet incredibly helpful tool for managing your sheets. We’ll explore the Sheet Index and demonstrate our recommended setup process for maximum organization and efficiency, including creating a separate DWG for each layout and title block, and Xrefing your main drawing into sheet files.

POWER TIP:  What Is An IES File?
Power Tip-What is an IES File?
Recommended by Alex Zahn

In the realm of lighting design, you may encounter IES files. These text files contain numerical data representing the three-dimensional “shape” of a light fixture’s projection. Closely related to “beam spread,” or “beam angle,” an IES file captures the nuanced light output pattern emitted by a particular fixture. We’ll shed some light on how manufacturers capture this photometric data, and how designers use it.

Visit our Lighting Features page for even more lighting design tools.

Special thanks to Puneet Sharma for the goniophotometer footage.

Portuguese Landscapes: 12 Projects Exploring the Relationship Between Natural and Built

Article from Archdaily.com

Modern Portuguese architecture has a renowned tradition of exploring the virtues of the landscape, either by integrating or emphasizing the natural elements to create new landscapes that result from the overlapping of culture and nature. Some fine examples include the Boa Nova Tea House and the Leça da Palmeira Tide Pools, both designed by Álvaro Siza, reacting to the rocky seascape where they lie, each in its own way.

However, it is not just modern architecture that is concerned with the landscape. In Portugal, contemporary works have been revealing exciting examples of the possibilities of approaching the natural environment and exploring its potential without compromising its integrity. To illustrate, we have gathered 12 contemporary projects that use different resources to explore the relationship between natural and built.

POWER TIP:  Menuload
Recommended by Land F/X

Can't see your Land F/X tools in AutoCAD and need to load your menus? In most cases, downloading and running the latest F/X Workstation installer will load them automatically. If the installer isn't doing the trick, you'll need to load your Land F/X menus manually. Luckily, our development team has recently done some engineering that makes this process substantially easier. Find out how to get your menus loaded and get back to designing.

Recorded Webinar-Permeable Surfaces with Concrete Pavers
Previously recorded on July 10, 2020
Presented by Brad Swanson of Unilock

This presentation will inspire architects, engineers, landscape architects, developers, and municipal agencies to choose permeable interlocking concrete pavers for sustainable stormwater solutions. A Best Management Practice under the EPA's National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) requirements, the use of permeable pavers is also a recommended construction practice under low-impact development and LEED guidelines. Brad Swanson of Unilock goes over benefits and options.

GUEST WEBINAR: Permeable Surfaces with Concrete Paving
Guest Webinar - Permeable Surfaces with Concrete Pavers
DATE: Friday, July 10, 2020
TIME: 10 a.m. Pacific Time

Concrete pavers were originally designed for heavy-duty applications, making them ideal for streets, roads, parking lots, and even plazas and sidewalks. By allowing water infiltration between units rather than through the pavers themselves, permeable pavers offer a significant advantage over other porous materials because paver composite is not changed. Because they come in a variety of shapes, colors, and textures, these pavers also offer an aesthetic quality. Brad Swanson of Unilock will go over all these benefits and options.

RECORDED WEBINAR: Tree Remediation Plans
Recorded Webinar: Tree Remediation Plans
Previously recorded on June 26, 2020
Presented by Amanda Berry

The first step of a design is typically an analysis of existing conditions. In many regions, this process includes a tree remediation, inventory, and/or removal plan. We'll show you how to use a separate Preference Set and project to organize, lay out, call out, and schedule your tree preservation. As an example, we'll use a simple tree inventory that only needs trees identified, with a few data points on the size and health. We'll bring the automatic schedule into MS Excel to fine-tune for some canopy totals. This intermediate-level presentation assumes you have a basic knowledge of our Plant Manager and Preferences screens.

RECORDED WEBINAR: Designing Rooftop Amenity Hardscapes
RECORDED WEBINAR: Designing Rooftop Amenity Hardscapes
Previously recorded on June 19, 2020
Presented by Brad Swanson of Unilock

Over the past few decades, exterior rooftop building spaces have transformed with the architecture and demand from the users. In recent years, there has been a resurgence for buildings to have a comprehensive activity area and social space, no longer used only for utilities. More than a luxury item, these outdoor areas are a highly desired amenity and way of life. With this transformation, newer and modern aesthetically pleasing materials are being selected to create amazing outdoor amenity spaces.

Join Brad Swanson from Unilock to learn about the systems being installed to activate these once underused spaces, as there are more options now than ever before. Technical concerns with durability will be addressed along with an in-depth look at the customization process for concrete products. The connection between the roof and site paving will be examined, along with the options available for creating an inclusive design.
