Hi LFX Wizards, For some reason, our Detail folder location not being saved with the Preference Set. We have multiple offices using different detail locations (and different standards). For the most part, we're able to share workload by using various preference sets but for some reason the detail folder location is not being saved so if we change the detail folder manually, it changes the library globally. Obviously this causes some BIG problems with people working with different preference sets in different projects. Please provide an update that fixes this ASAP.
Hi Steve,
This is a great question. Currently, and for some time now, the Detail Library Location is not stored in the preference sets. I see how this is confusing for your situation.
I'm working with our team now to figure out the best solution for you while Jeremiah is out of town. I'm going to open a ticket for this issue as well, so you'll be hearing more from us today!
Thanks
Thanks Forrestt. As you know, I have great confidence in you and the rest of the wizards at LandFX. I know that you will be able to modify a single line of code (or make me believe that it's that easy) and "Abra Cadabra" the issue is solved. Keep up the great work!

Hello LandFX, have you made any progress on this. We are running into this as well. I am starting to set things up for multiple offices and getting this resolved would be fantastic.
Thank you,
Wes
Actually, Seaweed changed tack and set up a common detail folder for all offices. Along with project and preference set permissions, it's helping to standardize details across offices.

You can create folders Up next to the Project folder with office-specific details, if you like.

I hope I'm not misremembering the result of our discussions, Seaweed.
Amanda,

Thanks for your input. I thought that this was a temporary work-around. I think that it would still be "preferable" to have it a "preference". Maybe a round table with pizza and beer is in order.

Seaweed
This is making its way up the wishlist. Looks very doable to get completed in September.

Good news / Bad news!

Good news, this finally got some development time today.

Bad news -- it brings to light a big issue.

Let's go with a rather simple usage case as the example -- you have only 2 preference sets, Imperial and Metric, and have set each detail library to different locations.  So now, your Detail Explorer only shows those two wildly different detail libraries.

But here's the problem -- User X remembers that this one metric project had some great details, that they would like to copy over, and convert to inches for an imperial project.  So how do they do this?  With their preferences set to Imperial, they cannot even see those metric details in the detail explorer.  So, they would likely open up that metric project, and edit one of the details.  Thinking they can now just save it into the imperial library... only no such luck, they are still locked to looking only at the metric library.  So, they change the preference set to Imperial, and now save the detail into the imperial library.

The problem being (!!!) that they just changed the preference set for that metric project to Imperial.

So long story short, as much as this is a good idea, the real puzzler, is how to allow a user to still look at all details in the Detail Explorer, and copy from one library to another.

Jer,

As always, (no really, always) you are correct. I wonder sometimes if I'm the only one that compares you to Elon Musk. Beware the Joe Rogan show.

BTW, We're getting by remapping our drives based on which office we're working with.
