We're one of THOSE offices. We use fields extensively so we don't have to go into drawings to renumber them if a sheet is added or subtracted. We use them for everything from match lines to simple title block titles and sheet numbers. It reduces the chances of human error. Especially when we're sharing sheet sets (dst's) with other disciplines. No matter who adds a sheet to the dst, the other disciplines are covered (as long as the person adding the sheet remembers to modify the dst).
-- Now, I have a seed mix that is located on a certain sheet and I want the plant legend to point to that sheet for the table (a seed mix created by a different discipline). But when I right click in the window to create a field, nothing happens. I can't seem to figure out how to add the field. Is this one of those things that we just have to wait a while for? Do I have to add it to a wish list?

My work around is to add a string of mtext including the field where the Remark would be, but if we regenerate the existing legend and if anything was added or removed prior to the seed mix, the text will end up in the wrong place. Any other ideas?

Well, I'm not seeing an easy way to pull it off.
I inserted a simple field into the Notes of a RefNote:
%< \AcVar Date \f "yyyy-MM-dd" > %
It saved correctly, and put it into the schedule. AutoCAD even saw it as a field. But for it to display correctly, I had to explode the schedule, and then immediately upon double-clicking on the Mtext entity, the field display updated!
So long story short, I'm not sure what magic it would take to embed a Field into our schedule Mtext. Beyond that, there is the notable challenge of the constraint of the editing box, with is just a simple text edit control. It would need the ability to highlight, edit, and insert fields. If that capability was possible, far higher on the wishlist is Spellcheck integrated into the editing of text.

An interim workaround, I noticed that AutoCAD's FIND command had no problem finding text within one of our schedules. So it could be a workaround to just search for a consistent naming technique, like "See sheet#: ".

And although definitely noted for the wishlist, embedding a field that accesses SheetSet information is going to be the most difficult. The realistic future is that our text edit controls will be replaced with a web browser edit control, giving spellcheck and other right click functionality that I am getting here in typing this text right now. But going down that path would be moving farther from accessing SheetSet information, as opposed to for instance having the text edit control be an actual Mtext editor.

But food for thought!

Great response. I completely understand the situation now. The last paragraph was especially intriguing. But I think if I had my druthers, I'd rather have the spellcheck. Then when I was running a spellcheck later and I found 10 errors in the legend I wouldn't have to go into 10 different items back and forth back and forth to fix the misspellings.
OK. How cool would it be if I were to fix the spelling in the legend using the AutoCAD spellcheck mechanism and it automatically fix the spelling in the land of facts items? Hey, I could even refedit The legend to insert a field. OK. Now I'm really dreaming. ---Thanks a lot Jer.
