Occasionally, when I try to place a dimension using the detail dimension tool, I get the following error message:

No user-saved dimstyle found. Use the default dimstyle?

Other times it works fine. Anybody know what's up with that?

Katherine,
The system uses the dimstyle that is saved to your Preference Set. If you are building details, you will want to make sure the desired Preference Set is active before placing your dimensions. The reason you are getting mixed results is more than likely caused by the differing Preference Sets that do not have a saved dimstyles yet. Take a look at the Power Tip below for more on this topic and let us know if you have any other questions.

That's exactly what I thought-- but when this has happened, I did check the preference set, and it was set to our office standard as usual.

In the details section of LandFX preferences, we have the correct arrowhead selected. The text settings we want are set in the general section under text styles. Is there anything additional we should do to save a dimstyle?

If not, do you have any other ideas about what might cause this bug? It's a little hard to troubleshoot since it's intermittent. Maybe I should call next time it happens.

Katherine,
You can definitely call us next time it happens and we would be happy to help you out. In the meantime, you can make sure you have properly saved your dimstyles by reading through the link below on Dimension Styles.

Katherine,

You will want to first confirm that you have the latest Ribbon. This is identifiable by the new Callout Preview button on the Detail tab. You can download the latest menu here.

But note that you referred to the arrowhead and text selection. The saved dimstyles are visible from the "Save Dimstyle" button -- there you can see the four total dimstyles that can be saved, depending on which dimension button you press (Site vs. Detail) and the units of your drawing. So it is sounding like you just need to visit the link that Jake first sent, and save your preferred dimstyle for the units you are working in.

It's all fixed now. It turns out we had a dimstyle saved for inches and not feet.

Thanks again for your help! Hope you all have a happy Thanksgiving :D
