Two items here:
Can the same remarks section in the plant manager be added to the ref notes so that sourcing, pricing/markup, etc. notes can be added separate from the actual reference note that shows up in the spreadsheet?
I also often wish I could include the description with the code label on the plan, instead of needing to add an extra text box behind the code label.

We do have plans to add a "Description" option for the available RefNote callouts. Funny story, it used to be an option but was removed!
As for the user fields, you can extensively configure user fields for RefNotes, all organized by Division. You can read more about doing that here.

Thank you Jeremiah. Great news on the description option.
Regarding the user fields; if I am correct you add these and then select the correct options for each specific project, correct? What I am looking for is simply a notes section where I can put information I need to remember about the product and it's installation, pricing, vendor, etc. every time I use it in a project.

So the thing to do, would be to experiment with a Division. Make some user fields of Installation, Pricing, Vendor, etc., and see if the interface will work for you.
