We have a huge update for all of you with 2.6.4 Beta. We’re posting this as a Beta installer here in the forum first due to how many big changes there are. We’d like those who can to test this out.
While we’ve been testing this out for months to get this ready, if you happen to encounter an error report please fill out any error report window that pops up thoroughly and submit a ticket to us. An example RVT file with the issue will help us find, replicate and fix anything as fast as possible.
If working on a production file, please use caution and keep backups. You can back up the project data from the Project List dialog in the Revit Plugin to safekeep the plant data, or in the AutoCAD plugin use Backup All Projects and Preferences.

Included:
Important: For these improvements, the files you work with must not be using the old instance parameters. They must be using type parameters on plants.
More Details:
1. Concept Plant Manager
2. Mix-and-Match 2D and 3D symbol selection
Other future planned improvements with mix-and-match:
Of Note:
You will find that some plan symbols have different default color render filled regions. This is a new feature we’re actively updating in the library in anticipation of an improved color render tool in August or September. The colors can be edited for now in the same way as the old plan symbols.
3.Generic site amenities tool
Located beside rootball visibility, this is a data-less symbol selection tool. It’s a precursor to a future RefNote Manager but is still going to be very helpful right now to give you a nice new library selection of site elements like benches, lights, pergolas, umbrellas, pools and more!
4. Many bug fixes and other enhancements

Included:
- 2027 Revit version support!
- Concept Plant Manager
- Mix-and-Match 2D and 3D symbol selection
- Generic site amenities tool
- Ribbon reorganization
- Updated dialog user interfaces
- Many bug fixes and other enhancements
Important: For these improvements, the files you work with must not be using the old instance parameters. They must be using type parameters on plants.
More Details:
1. Concept Plant Manager
- Next to the Plant Manager tool in the ribbon you’ll now find the Concept Plant Manager.
- This includes plant mixes as groundcovers!
- Your plant mix data will import from past AutoCAD projects. Our documentation for the Revit side has been updated to help you with this feature. You will find the tools as close to the same as possible as in the AutoCAD plugin. At this time, drag-and-dropping species to palettes doesn’t work in Revit but the Assign button does.
- Concept Schedules can be placed on sheets. Since there’s not enough room in parameter capabilities to include all the species data for a plant mix, this is a custom schedule we create with set options and not a native Revit schedule view.
2. Mix-and-Match 2D and 3D symbol selection
- You’re no longer bound by the pairings we create in the plant family symbols library. Choose any 2D/plan symbol and and 3D symbol and Planting F/X for Revit will create you a completely custom family that scales to your chosen width perfectly.
- The families have better names, too. The family is named after the 2 symbols matched together, and the family type name is “CODE - Botanical Name - Database Number (internal)”. It’s once again to see the species directly from the properties palette.
- These new symbols also have the rootball family baked right inside them instead of pinned together.
- This new setup allows us to use family types, meaning you can assign not only the same symbols, but even the same symbol pairings to multiple species. This is great for those restoration planting designs with multiple sizes of the same species.
- Your legacy plant families will still work. When you edit a plant that was already assigned a symbol, you’ll see a “Convert to Mix-and-Match” button at the bottom. If you do not click that, any plants you place for it will continue to use the old family. If you click it, it will convert all placed instances of that plant to the new family. In this first release, converting will delete existing labels, but that should be patched in the next few releases. We are also working on a tool to safely convert all plans in the plant manager to mix-and-match symbols.
Other future planned improvements with mix-and-match:
- Symbol selection dialog highlights symbols already used, and which plant is using it.
- More symbols
- Plant symbols will be named exactly the same on all platforms, allowing you to use 3D connection without having to choose symbols for each platform.
- Showing customized symbols in the selection window (of note, these symbol families will be much easier to customize - just keep them as 1000mm width in the family and update the height parameter reported and your custom symbol will scale perfectly, too. Full guides coming.
Other New Improvements:
- Adjacent Plants Settings Dialog
• Added a new dialog for controlling adjacent plant selection behavior - Import Plants from 3D Connection dialog improvements
• Select and see both 2D and 3D symbols - Label Single
• Added a new ribbon button to tag a single plant - Logging Cleanup
• Fixed issue where old log files were not being cleaned up - Plant Selection Sync
• Selecting a placed plant in the Revit model now automatically selects and highlights the corresponding plant in the Planting Manager (this current version will not switch the active plant type (ex. Trees active in PM and a shrub is selected) of the Planting Manager - New Projects Dialog
• See how many of each plant will be imported.
• Progress Bar including estimated time remaining.
• Supports safe cancellation before commit.
• Supports selecting either a plant element or an existing tag
• Improved log file management to prevent buildup over time
• Makes it easier to locate and manage placed plants without manual searching
• Works for both legacy and Mix & Match plants
Fixes:
- Further error handling added to PostRequest function to handle "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" exception. Issue was related to one of the following issues:
• DNS errors - Plant Info “Group” field not displaying on load - The Group field (data_code2) was not being populated when Plant Info loaded, even though the underlying plant data was present. This caused the field to appear blank until manually changed. Visual/UI issue only
• Timeout before receiving response
• SSL handshake failures
• Connection refused
• Tech console ribbon icon updated
• Fix for general preferences SID field not validating
Tweaks:
- More info added to system dump console command (useful for troubleshooting)
- Planting Manager now preserves the selected plant in the list when it is refreshing or editing, maintaining user context and preventing selection resets.
• This includes preview images be updated when the plant is edited - Added screen visibility validation before restoring saved dialog bounds
• Implemented fallback logic to reposition off-screen dialogs within the primary screen working area
• Image loading is now more robust and efficient:
• Safely handles empty, invalid, or missing image paths
• Falls back to a default preview image when needed
• Reduces unnecessary temporary file creation
• Improves handling of locked or in-use image files
• Updated dialog restore logic to apply saved bounds only when still visible
• Improved persistence by saving RestoreBounds when dialogs are minimized or maximized
• Increased overall robustness of dialog state handling across sessions and DPI/display changes
