Update Groundcover Parameters Error: The Groundcover is Missing the Parameter [LAFX Symbol Spread] (Placing a Groundcover Using the Planting F/X Plugin for Revit®)

Issue:

You saw the following error when trying to place a groundcover onto a toposolid or floor in Revit:

Update Groundcover Parameters Error: The groundcover is missing the parameter [LAFX Symbol Spread].

The LAFX parameters of the resulting toposolid or floor are nots filled in with the data from the Plant Manager.

Cause

We've seen this issue occur when an old template toposolid and floor RVT file incorrectly had LAFX parameters embedded within it. If a groundcover was placed first and used this RVT, the parameters would be incorrectly created as instance parameters rather than type parameters.

We've also seen this error when a user has added custom shared or project parameters to the file with the LAFX- prefix as instance parameters. As a result, a message will pop up mistakenly indicating that the entire file uses instance parameters, when really all real LAFX- parameters are type parameters and only the custom LAFX- parameters are instance parameters.

Solution

Step 1: Verify that you have not created any LAFX- instance parameters.

First, ensure that you haven't created any custom LAFX- instance parameters. If you have, rename them or delete them from Project Parameters.

If you haven't created any custom LAFX- instance parameters, or if you renamed or deleted any custom LAFX- instance parameters and are still seeing the error message, move on to the nex step.

Step 2: Address a possible issue with LFX- and LAFX- floor and toposolid definitions.

2A. Navigate to your library folder for this version of Revit.

2B. In the LAFX_Families folder, delete the floors and toposolid RVT files in the subfolders.

2C. Purge the LFX- and LAFX- floor and toposolid definitions from your Revit model.

2D. Follow our steps to upgrade an instance parameter drawing to a type parameter drawing.

2E. Place the groundcover again. Its parameters should be set correctly this time.
