Do You Have a 32-Bit or 64-Bit Version of Windows?

    Updated on: May 31, 2022

    Issue

You need to find out whether you have a 32-but or 64-bit Windows operating system installed on your computer.

Our software is only offered as a 64-bit program. Due to the overwhelming number of users abandoning 32-bit operating systems altogether, along with the processor-intensive power of AutoCAD, we highly recommend using a computer with 64-bit operating system as a CAD workstation.

    Solution

The method of determining whether you have a 32- or 64-bit operating system will vary depending on your version of Windows.

    Windows 10 or Windows 7

    1. Right-click the Start menu.

    2. Select System from the menu that opens.

    Windows Start menu, System option

    3. In the System Properties screen, the System Type entry (pictured below) will display whether you have a 32- or 64-bit operating system.

     Close

    Windows 8

    To open the System Properties:

    1. Follow our instructions to open the Windows 8 search bar.

    2. Type View Advanced in the search bar.

    3. Click the View advanced system settings option that opens.

Windows 8 search bar, View advanced system settings option

The Advanced System Settings screen will open. The System Type entry (pictured below) will display whether you have a 32- or 64-bit operating system.
