Undesired Boxes Appearing Around Plant Label Text in PDFs

Issue

You're using AutoCAD or F/X CAD 2016, and you're finding that when you place plant labels, the callout text is surrounded by boxes (and you don't want it to be).

Callout Text has boxes

For example, you might see boxes like those pictured to the left ...

When you want your labels to look like this:

Cause

A new feature of AutoCAD 2016 allows for editable text boxes in PDFs that you create from your drawings. Unfortunately, these text boxes are visible, which can wreak havoc on your planting plans.

Solution

Follow the steps below to disable the PDF text boxes.

1. Close CAD.

2. Download and install the latest Service Pack or update for your version of CAD.

3. Open CAD. Type EPDFSHX in the Command line, and press Enter.

4. When prompted to enter a value, type 0 and press Enter.

You should now be able to produce PDFs without the text boxes.
