Reference Note (RefNote) or Detail Callouts are Empty
Issue
You opened your drawing, and your Reference Note (RefNote) or Detail callouts are empty, as pictured in the examples below.
Cause
RefNote and Detail Callouts are tied directly to the data held in your Land F/X Project. If for any reason the connection to your Land F/X Project is broken, the callouts can no longer pull the information communicated in the callout itself.
We've seen this issue most often when the incorrect Land F/X Project is assigned to the drawings, or when the RefNotes or Details the callouts are referring to have been deleted from their respective managers, which deletes them from the Land F/X Project.
Solution
RefNote Callouts
Verify that the correct Land F/X Project is assigned to the drawing. Open the RefNotes Manager and verify that the RefNotes are both:
- Listed in the Manager and
- The correct RefNotes for this Land F/X project and real-world project. If a RefNote Schedule is present in the drawings, cross-reference the schedule and the Manager.
If the correct project is assigned, run our Verify Callouts tool will reassociate the project data with the callouts. If the contents of the RefNote manager were mistakenly altered or deleted, you will need to restore a backup of the Land F/X Project. If a sufficient backup does not exist, the RefNotes will need to be recreated and called out.
Detail Callouts:
Ensure the correct Land F/X project is assigned to the drawing. Open the Detail Manager and verify that all details inside match the project. The Detail Manager reflects the details that were loaded into the project. If the details look unfamiliar or don't appear to fit the nature of the project, it's likely that the wrong Land F/X Project is assigned.
Once you've assigned the correct project, the way to address the situation will depend on what is missing and what happened. If the details were deleted from the Detail Manager, you can either:
If the original details are still in the Detail Manager, Detail Callouts placed within placed details can be reloaded. You'll need to edit the detail. If the callouts repopulate with their information, you can save the detail and choose to overwrite the existing detail in the project.
After saving, use our Update Details tool to ensure the placed detail is the most up-to-date version. If the Detail Callouts don't repopulate their data, use our Update Detail Callouts tool to update them. If this does not pull the data back into the callout, you will need to Associate the callout with a detail again.
If your Detail Callouts placed in Model or Paper Space are blank, you'll need to open a past save of the drawing containing the text. Otherwise, once the correct Land F/X project is confirmed and assigned to the drawing, you'll need to use our Associate Callout tool to associate the callouts with a detail again.

- Your callouts are appearing with color background fills or masks, or coming in as solid boxes that don't contain any text
- Your callouts show a hollow arrow for the leader instead of a solid filled arrow as expected
