Land F/X FAQs

Land F/X provides software plugins that adapt AutoCAD® to irrigation design, landscape architecture, and other disciplines. Land F/X has grown into a trusted tool for more than 2,700 firms worldwide since launching in 2004. Originally a father-son project, the company has grown to more than 35 employees while maintaining its founding spirit of treating users as valued family members.

What products does Land F/X offer?

Land F/X offers the CAD plugins Irrigation F/X, Planting F/X, and Design F/X, as well as Planting F/X plugins for the 3D platforms Revit®, SketchUp, and Rhinoceros (Rhino). The company also offers F/X CAD – a genuine Autodesk engine tailored to the needs of irrigation designers and landscape architects, available exclusively for Land F/X users.

What is Irrigation F/X?

Irrigation F/X is a professional-grade irrigation design plugin that adds onto CAD. Users can browse and specify irrigation components from the industry's top manufacturers, select from a vast library of symbols, and instantly drop equipment into CAD as smart blocks and hatches. Automatic pipe sizing and flow/pressure calculations based on the Hazen-Williams formula ensure accuracy and eliminate the most tedious parts of the design process. Irrigation F/X is a subscription that costs $875 per year. All Planting F/X and Design F/X tools are included.

What is Planting F/X?

Planting F/X is a plugin with professional-grade landscape design tools for CAD, Revit, SketchUp, and Revit. The tool provides smart plant blocks and hatches that can be assigned with data (such as plant variety and per-unit cost); instant labeling, scheduling, and error checking; and an unparalleled system for drafting and organizing details. Planting F/X is a subscription that costs $575 per year. All Design F/X tools are included.

What is Design F/X?

Design F/X is a detail management plugin with professional-grade tools for AutoCAD and Civil 3D that make it easy to customize, design, save, edit, call out, and organize CAD details. Design F/X costs $175 per year.

What is F/X CAD?

F/X CAD is an Autodesk authorized CAD platform specifically for Land F/X users. It requires a Land F/X plugin license: Irrigation F/X, Planting F/X, or Design F/X. F/X CAD includes free upgrades and is purchased via a subscription that costs $775 per year. Powered by CAD technology, F/X CAD is a platform for your Land F/X licenses, with a few native AutoCAD non-essentials removed.

What tools are in Irrigation F/X?

Irrigation F/X is the best irrigation software on the market. It has tools for placing and specifying equipment from a massive, accurate database that includes both Imperial and metric data from more than 30 manufacturers’ catalogs; laying out valves, heads, and other equipment throughout a design quickly, choosing from an immense symbol library, simply using the designer's own existing symbols; circuiting; drawing and sizing pipe and dripline, calculating pressure and flow automatically, labeling pipes and valves, and placing irrigation, watering, and runtime schedules – all with just a few clicks. Irrigation F/X also includes all Planting F/X and Design F/X tools.

What tools are in Planting F/X?

Planting F/X allows users to start by building a plant palette from a massive database of more than 54,000 trees, shrubs, and groundcovers, along with an expansive library of site amenities and hardscape objects and materials. Users can add plants to the Land F/X database as needed. Plants and other objects are placed in CAD drawings as smart blocks or hatches – all pulled from an extensive symbol library of blocks and hatches, to which users can ass their own custom blocks and hatches. Plant labels are placed as smart MLeader callouts tied to the plants they identify. Users can check for errors with a click, place instant schedules with automatic quantities, and transform their planting plans into color presentations and back into construction documents instantly, and easily move their drawings into 3D models using SketchUp, Rhino, or Revit. Everything is customizable to the user's unique office standards. Planting F/X also includes all Design F/X tools.

What tools are in Design F/X?

Design F/X includes tools for organizing, creating, enlarging, and placing CAD details, plus callouts and extensive libraries of detail builder blocks and manufacturers' product details.

Does Design F/X include lighting tools?

No. The Land F/X lighting tools are included in the Planting F/X plugin, meaning that they are included in Planting F/X and Irrigation F/X, but not Design F/X.

Do I have to have a CAD platform?

Yes, if you plan to use one of the Land F/X CAD plugins. All Land F/X licenses run on either the full version of AutoCAD®, Civil 3D®, or our F/X CAD. We support the 5 most recent versions of CAD. Land F?X also offers a Planting F/X plugin for each of the 3D platforms Revit, Rhino, and SketchUp, and users can operate this plugin with a paid and supported version of any of these platforms. In general, we support the 5 most recent year versions of Revit, Rhino, and SketchUp.

Do I have to buy F/X CAD?

No, but if you want to use the Land F/X plugin licenses for CAD, you need to have a full version of AutoCAD® or Civil 3D®, or F/X CAD.

Does Land F/X software work with AutoCAD LT®?

No. AutoCAD LT® does not allow for 3rd-party software add-ons. Therefore, it cannot run Land F/X software.

Does Irrigation F/X include Planting F/X?

Yes.

Can I mix the license types?

Yes. For example, if you have 5 designers, 1 of whom does irrigation, you can get 4 Planting F/X and 1 Irrigation F/X licenses.

Does Planting F/X include the plugin for Revit®?

Yes.

Does Irrigation F/X include the plugin for Revit®?

Yes, but the plugin for Revit includes mostly planting design tools.

Can I use the Planting F/X for Revit® and Planting F/X for CAD at the same time?

Yes, but only if you are licensed for, and have access to, two seats of Planting F/X.

Can I get a network license?

Yes. All Land F/X licenses are network based. (This does not include F/X CAD). This is our recommended installation setup.

Can I install on a server?

Yes. We offer a great deal of flexibility in how you install our software. Whether you want to install on a central office server, a standalone installation on a desktop or laptop, or even a cloud installation that's hosted online, it's all your choice.

On how many computers can I install your software?

You can install a license of a Land F/X plugin (Design F/X, Planting F/X, Irrigation F/X) on as many computers as you'd like, but the number of licenses you have is the number of people who can use the software at one time. (This policy does not apply to F/X CAD – see below.) One seat of F/X CAD may only be installed and activated on one person's work computer and home computer or laptop, and only one of these installations may be used at a time by that same person. More information on F/X CAD licensing.

What is unlimited technical support?

Any time you have issues with or questions about our software, reach out and get world-class support from us. You can submit a tech support ticket, email, or call. (Phone hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Pacific.) Our dedicated team of support professionals brings a wealth of experience with landscape architecture, irrigation design, and software/hardware troubleshooting. Bottom line: If you’re having trouble, we’re here to help – it’s that simple. Your support covers the following items for Land F/X products: installation, activation, usage questions, training videos, plotting, crashing, opening & saving files, customization, hot fixes, and service pack object enablers. See our Scope of Support for details.

Do you offer a return policy?

Yes, we offer a 30-day money-back guarantee.

Is there a payment plan?

No, we do not offer a payment plan at this time.

Do you accept purchase orders (POs)?

Yes, we accept POs, but not as a form of payment. The account will not be marked as PAID, and the software will not be operable, until we receive payment for the license(s) you plan to purchase.

Do you accept checks as a form of payment?

No, we are no longer able to accept checks as a form of payment as of January 1, 2025.

What is covered by the yearly subscription for the Land F/X plugin licenses?

The subscription price covers unlimited tech support (phone & email), unlimited version updates (sent weekly), weekly training webinars & videos, cloud databases (plant, SketchUp®, details, irrigation, site), and unlimited re-installations.

If you choose Cloud Data for your installation and you allow your subscription to expire, you’ll also lose access to all functionality and all project data. If you choose not to renew your license subscription and you have Cloud Data, you’ll need to follow our steps for maintaining existing project data in the event of an expired license before your license expires.

Do I need to download and install the new version of F/X CAD after I pay for the subscription each year?

The subscription covers the unlimited technical support for CAD issues, and assistance with any need to reinstall your current version. You are welcome to upgrade F/X CAD every year, or every other year.

Due to F/X CAD being a 3-year subscription licensed Autodesk® OEM product, you would not be able to skip upgrading for two years, as F/X CAD would stop working. Get more details on the F/X CAD Web page.

What happens to my existing Land F/X plugin licenses after the change to the subscription model?

The subscription model applies to both existing licenses and newly purchased licenses. Your existing Land F/X plugin licenses will renew at the subscription model price.

If I buy additional licenses at your new subscription pricing, what happens to my existing licenses?

All licenses are now subscription, so your existing licenses will renew at the new subscription pricing. Additional license subscriptions will incur a prorated price, but the support date (i.e., the by which date the subscription must be renewed to stay current) to will remain the same.

Do you offer a monthly subscription?

No, we currently only offer annual subscriptions.

What are the Terms and Conditions?

Land F/X has the right to stop service to any license that has been reported as stolen or used on an unauthorized computer. Returns of the software are valid for up to 30 days from purchase. Our software is based on recurring services. Though not required, paying the yearly subscription renewal fee allows users continued access to support and content. In addition, users with cloud installations who allow their licenses to expire will also lose access to all functionality, as well as all project data. We have provided specific steps for maintaining existing project data in the event of an expired license. Please note that these steps must be followed prior to the expiration of the license in question.

What is the Land F/X Software End User Agreement?

Our end user agreement defines the user's rights and restrictions in using Land F/X software. You can read the full document here: Land F/X Software End User Agreement.

Friction Loss Calculator

Calculate the friction loss, fluid velocity, and elevation loss of your pipes. Use the Hazen-Williams formula and the tools inside of Irrigation F/X for CAD.

Information missing to complete the equation.

Pipe inside diameter must be greater than 0.

Friction Loss:
0 per 10 ft
Velocity:
0 ft/s
Elevation Loss:
0

Note: The Hazen-Williams (friction loss) equation is most accurate at room temperature, near 60°F, and becomes increasingly unsuitable above 100°F.

Do it automatically in CAD:

• Hazen-Williams calculations (friction loss)

• Irrigation Schedules

• Pipe sizing

• Real equipment data from manufacturers

• Error checking and easy revisions

• Test sprinkler head coverage

• Generate system-wide Critical Analysis

• And so much more ...

RESERVE A SPOT

Pick one category for each photo you submit

Residential

Show off your design of a modestly sized space, on a budget to match. (Houses on these sites should be 3,000 square feet or smaller.)

High-end Residential

Show us how you made the most of a larger bottom line. These projects will have been graced with a landscape budget rivaling the value of a budget home, likely on a larger residential site (read: big, lush mansion).

Commercial

These projects show the best application of landscape architecture to sites that may not scream "landscape" but still require it. Show us how you brought creativity to the otherwise mundane on a commercial site such as a courtyard, parking lot, or office building.

Community & Civic

This category covers sites ranging from city parks to theme parks, hotels, or streetscapes. Show off how you took a larger public space to the next level with your design.
