After adding Land F/X objects, such as plants and site amenities, to your project or placing them in your model, you may want to edit their data or change their SketchUp component. With the Object Info tool in our Planting F/X for SketchUp plugin, you can quickly change the data and SketchUp model assigned to an object.

Object Info Tool Overview

You can edit Land F/X objects in two ways:

Plants and site amenities, including those that you haven't placed in your model yet, can be edited from the Plant Manager or Site Amenities Manager, respectively.

Select the object you'd like to edit in the manager of your choice (Plant Manager pictured), then click Edit.

Plant Manager, Edit button

If you've already placed the object in your model, you can alternatively use the Object Info tool directly:

If you activate the Object Info tool without a Land F/X object selected, your cursor will change into an eyedropper icon, and the status bar text will read Select a Land F/X object to edit its info. You can then, click on a placed instance of a Land F/X plant or site amenity to edit it.

One of the following dialog boxes will open, depending on what kind of object you're editing:

  • Edit plants or
  • Edit site amenities

Assigning a SketchUp Component to a Plant

Before you can place a plant in your SketchUp model, it must be assigned a SketchUp component. This assigned SketchUp component acts as the visual representation of the plant wherever it appears in your model.

To assign a SketchUp component to a plant, from the Plant Info dialog box, click the thumbnail box.

The Land F/X Select Component dialog box will open.

Select a plant type by clicking one of the buttons at the top of the dialog box. SketchUp components of the selected plant type will display in the list of thumbnails below.

You can also browse for your own pre-saved plant symbols by clicking Browse. However, your library of pre-saved symbols must be located in the folder you've designated as your Library folder in the Planting F/X for SketchUp plugin Settings.

Plant Data and Tagging

Each plant in our database is assigned specific data via a system of common-sense tag groups created by our plant database team. These groups include wiki-based tags added by Land F/X users and vetted by our team. The name of each plant is based on parameters set up by the International Society for Horticultural Science (ISHS).

To view and edit the data assigned to the plant, click the Data button.

The dialog box will expand to show a panel within which you can view and edit data tags, view photos, view a description, and discuss the plant with other Land F/X users. For more information and instructions on this feature, see our plant data tagging system documentation.
