This File is Opened Read-Only and Cannot Be Saved (Editing or Saving a Detail)

Issue

You tried to edit and overwrite or save a detail, but you received the following message:

This file is opened read-only and cannot be saved.

Cause

This issue can occur for one of the following reasons:

• The Land F/X project you are working within has its permissions set to Read-Only, which will also affect any detail that is assigned to that project-specific detail folder.
• Either your office's LandFX folder or the detail folder containing this detail is marked as Read-Only in Windows.

Solution

First, check whether your Land F/X project is set to Read-Only. See our article on project permissions and read-only projects.

If necessary (and if permitted by your CAD manager), contact the person in your office who is set as the administrator of the project that's set to Read-Only, and have that person activate that project. (A project may have multiple administrators.)

When your office makes a project Read-Only, we recommend editing the names of the project folder and its detail folder names to include some text designating them as Read-Only.

If the project is not set to Read-Only, or if you're still getting the same message after changing the project permissions, you are likely dealing with a permissions issue in Windows. See our article on granting read-write permissions for the LandFX folder. You may also need to set the same permissions for your detail library folder, which is commonly at the path LandFX\Details.
